this season has not gone as we planned.
and i guess the unlucky panthers trend has continued. more of the trend after the jump
i don't know if you all have noticed. but we tend to have a really good year. and then go into a slump for the next 2 years.1996 12-4
1997 7-9
1998 4-12
1999 8-8
2000 7-9
2001 1-15
2002 7-9
2003 11-6
2004 7-9
2005 11-5
2006 8-8
2007 7-9
2008- 12-4
2009 4-6 atm..

My 2 cents of non-sense
I cant speak of breaking the trend, as it would have to be at least three years before we could know.
However, changes that I think could immediately affect us and result in a winning season next year are obvious…
Jeff Davidson has to go. I can’t say it enough, nor can nearly every other Panther fan, yet our voices are currently being cast aide at best, if even heard.
I don’t care if Delhomme plays terribly, that will be addressed in the off season, we just have to get there. I don’t care if we our o-line is giving up quick pressure on the QB. I don’t care if our receivers are dropping passes.
Why? Because it can all be fixed. That fix goes back to Mr. Davidson… AKA Gump… AKA JeffAir.
If Delhomme plays terrible, we run. If we give up quick pressure, we screen. Doing those two successfully builds confidence, gets the team into it, and I would predict we seen less dropped passes after such… Also by cutting down on the number of passes they could drop in the first place, by the way.
I’ve read a lot of arguments that we can’t run every down but that is SO irrelevant at a moment in time when Delhomme throws 42 times in a single game and completes less than half of said passes!
And I don’t really give a damn about the “because we were behind” argument either, because incomplete passes are what put us behind in the first place.
Jeff simply cannot get it through his thick skull that Delhomme isn’t a star QB and he, nor his buddy, are going to make him one, no matter how hard they try and force it!
Correction #1: Jeff Must Go!
If earlier in the day someone would have told me we’d pass 42 times in comparison to 27 runs (13 Williams, 12 Stewart, 2 Delhomme), I’d damn well believe them knowing Jeff was at the helm. I’d pray it wasn’t so, though, and I would then be terribly disappointed (as I am now) once the game concluded.
Correction #2: Get Rid Of Jeff!
If someone were to tell me Williams would split carries with Stewart right down to the end of the game while one of them was ON and one of them was OFF, I might think they were slightly crazy. To be exact, according to NFL.com, Williams averaged 9.4 yards per carry compared to Stewart averaging 3.6. Obviously both backs are great but some days one will have a better day than another, and sometimes it becomes an element game of speed vs power, whichever the opposing D was suffering against the most.
In this case, Stewart was clearly not into the game as Williams was. Rather Miami just had his number or his injury was bothering him, I do not know, but regardless he still wasn’t having a great day – that was evident early in the game.
Williams on the other hand burned Miami nearly every time he touched the ball, carrying an average that was almost a first down every single touch. This wasn’t just a “hindsight statistic” that we can now look back on and see but a trend that was noticed very early in the game. So, who was the moron that felt it appropriate to give Williams only 1 more carry? I don’t know who handles subs, is it Fox or Davidson? Whichever it was, I cannot commend them. Nonetheless…
Correction #3: El Get Rid-O Jeff-O
As you can see, I speak no Spanish yet I am running out of ways to put it. He is killing us and it’s not so subtle that we cannot see it. He is the source of our problems, his play calling emphasizes our weakness and contains our strength – opposing D’s need not even worry about stopping our run because he does it for them.
Not saying that he would, although I believe he could, but imagine if DeAngelo kept that average going for 21 carries.. That’s almost 200 yards! Given the fact that I’m sure he would have had quite a few more runs break out for long gains (he got stopped a few times but when he got loose, man did he get loose!), Williams could’ve surpassed 200 yards in this game and I’m sure a TD or two would have came with it.
Delhomme was having an off day. He did well in the no huddle to start the game but that was quickly stripped of him as soon as Davis thought it may be working.
I get the feeling Jeff thinks this is a movie and he wants to be the hero that calls the right play at the right time where Delhomme hits Smith deep for a game saving TD. If they keep trying, I’m sure it’ll happen eventually but how many must we lose first?
The guy is a disease inflicted upon us, we must heal ourselves! So, I’ll add one more correction here.. I think I’ve thought of something appropriate..
Correction #4: Go He Must, Jeff Davidson!
ps. can anyone guess where #4 comes from?
People speculate on what comes next, in the afterlife. I just hope they serve collards.

your sentiments are shared by all

Jake will always be one of my all-time favorite Panthers
but I’m firmly on the side of starting someone else now for the rest of the season. There is little chance (.001%) this team can win half of its remaining games much less go the 5-1 that is needed for a shot.

I love Jake, but we need to evalutate the QB position prior to the draft.

Correction #5
Get rid of what’s his name, the OC

Yeah, what another disappointing loss… the running game was on and working when Jake started trying to pass… and each and every time I cringed.

We get inside the 10 and THEN decide its time to throw...?

Blame game
I don’t believe Davidson is a good OC at all, but I can’t blame all the problems on him. I really feel that he is caught between John and Jake. I believe Jake has more influence on play calling than Davidson at this time. I think Jake is out to prove he can still get it done and Fox is letting him do it. Those two are connected at the hip and they will live or die on that agreement.

How do you explain Fox and Jake having so much success together until Davidson came into the picture?
Jake’s career rating B.D (before Davidson) 90.08
Jake’s rating A.D (after Davidson) 75.35
When Jake is running the no huddle we move the ball. When Jake isn’t calling audibles the offense grinds to a hault.

D-Ranged1 isn't so deranged on this one
Gump MUST go. That’s it. He can’t be the OC anymore. If for no other reason than I really don’t want to become a borderline alcoholic for the next 2 months.
Put Moore in for the rest of the year to see what he’s made of so we know when to draft a QB, and make Jake the OC for the rest of the season.

Can't believe I'd ever say this.....
I would rather bring back Dan Henning than keep Davidson…..and I was not and am not a Dan Henning fan and am not awe struck by his “wild cat” offense that seems to have everyone dumb struck.
