I came home from youth yesterday at about 4 PM ET, which is 10 PM here. My brother was on the computer, and he says Peppers hurt himself in practice and is out for the year. The time is about right for some breaking news, typically we either get it late at night or the next day, so I told him to bring up the article. Turns out he was lying, the little punk!!! ; ) But it got me thinking, what would our D-line look like without Peppers this season, assuming he's either hurt or traded. Lets play the what if game
First of all, Johnson would swap over to RE, Hilee Taylor or Maurice Evans would be promoted from the PS, and Brown would get a lot more time. If there was a decent FA available we might sign one, I don't know of anyone though so lets assume not. Next question, how would we play? Would the line play improve without Peppers slacking off? Would we regress because of the lack of Peppers gifts? My opinion is that Johnson and Brayton and Brown would step up in a need to replace Peppers and what we lost if he went down. Teams wouldn't be scared to roll out to Peps side or to run at his side, but Johnson and Brayton will earn a reputation as solid starters, Brown might collect a few as a passing down specialist. What do you guys think, does a theoretical loss of Peppers help us or hurt us?
