Panthers LB Davis Inactive for Bills Game
Leading Panthers tackler LB Thomas Davis leaves big shoes to fill for today's game against the Bills. From Darin Gantt:
#Panthers inactives: LB Thomas Davis, FB Hoover, 3rd QB Feeley, RB Sutton, OLs Williams and Robinson, DT Hayden, S Lewis.
I thought James Anderson would get the start, but I was wrong:
Landon Johnson's going to start for Thomas Davis. Like I said, nobody on the roster has Davis' kind of ability.
Its about time for Johnson to step up.Bills RB Fred Jackson presents a risk to Johnson as he better be sharp in tracking Jackson down from out of the backfield.
FB Brad Hoover being out again puts rookie Tony Fiammetta in the cross hairs.
#Panthers FB Brad Hoover's back problem is about to become a long-term worry. Kind of an old man's problem, bothering him more than he knew.
Back problems are never good for over 30 NFL players. This may be Hoover's Swan song season.

Hoover being out is the bigger loss, far as I’m concerned.

Early on didn't our running game struggle when Fiametta was in?

Yeah.
I’m hoping with our offensive line playing better and the Bills run defense being terrible it’ll make for an easier day for Fiametta.

Sure did.
Nobody leads through the hole like Hoover.

I heard on the radio that this shouldn't be a huge deal
Because the Panthers often lead block with a combination of a FB and 1 or 2 TEs.

Landon Johnson
He’s faster than James Anderson, better lateral movement and better defending passes. My guess is that’s why he’s there.
Anderson is a better tackler and in run support.

Anderson has been playing great
I think this is just a last chance for Landon to prove himself. I bet Anderson still gets a ton of time.

Yes, I'd rather have Anderson in there myself

Wow, the good news is starting early folks. Losing Davis hurts bad. The guy was by far the best defensive player on the team.

Not the best
Beason is by far our best LB. TD is just in position to make plays

Question
I would like to know what has happened to Sherrod Martin I don’t ever see his name anywhere and he was a high pick. Could someone please enlighten me.
Thanks

He's on the roster
and active every game so far ( I think). He plays on special teams. But yes, 7th round pick Captain Munnerlyn gets more PT. My guess is the switch from S to CB proved too much too quick.
I’m thinking Martin ends up back a Safety at some point.

+1
The transition from safety to corner is very hard, you go from laying back reading the play to right up in the thick of the action, where the slightest mistep can cost you 70 yards.
