FALSE RUMOR: Steve Smith Trade in the Works For Real!
Just a rumor so far..This did not happen, we don't even know if the two teams talked at all.
It's been heard by couple different outlets that the Panthers are talking to the Dolphins about a trade before today's deadline at 4pm EST.

I can't imagine this happening
What could they possibly compensate us with?without Smith we’d need a QB and 2 receivers to actually get better.

The title should read:
Steve Smith Trade in the Works FOR REALZ!!!! OMG!! LOLOLOL!!!111
IF… IF this happened… I’m not sure I could watch another Panthers game this season.
But seriously…. Jerry Richardson’s Panthers? Trading away a guy they’ve worked so hard to foster a good relationship with? And from whom they’ve gotten so much? Really?
Just put this image in your mind, and tell me there’s some serious talk of trade:

scarey
We don’t need to be trading great player for crappy player. Maybe a crappy QB for a not so crappy QB would be nice

I'd like to give a CSR shoutout to Adam Schefter
For responding to my tweet with 20 minutes to debunk the rumor.
Thank you Mr. Schefter.

I wonder where Smith stands in all of this? Aside from personal life, what about his professional career? Knowing that Delhomme just isn’t getting the ball to him any more, how does he feel? Has he stopped and thought his career may never again be what it was? Certainly this is just speculation but assuming we don’t get a great-from-the-start QB next year, if Delhomme doesn’t begin to climb back up to his former self, will Smith see anymore break out seasons? Are these things he is even concerned about?
My guess is Smith see’s none of the aforementioned and, if he does, it’s only fuel to fire him up.
I think we’re in a win-win situation right now. All we can do is, um, not win the Super Bowl. Whatever direction we take will, ultimately, be for the best.

I'm betting the Panthers go into full on
“Find a replacement for Delhomme” mode this off-season. Feeley will get his chance but I bet they bring in more competition than they have in the past.

I still have this burning desire in my heart of hearts that Sam Bradford falls to us because of the shoulder injuries.
It’s possible… and it would be amazing.

bradford
I don’t like the constant shoulder injuries. He’s young, though, so I’m going to assume that he can rebound, and that all the medical stuff will be worked out. What are his measurables? height, weight, etc. Also, isn’t he a junior. If his injuries keep him from playing half the season or more, he’ll probably come back for his senior year to either show he is not injury prone, or to finish his degree cuz he’s to fragile for the big leagues.

No, he's a senior
He went back to OU for his senior year and probably left top 10 pick salary money on the table for doing it.

No, he's a senior
was a redshirt sophomore last year, so he could’ve come out b/c it’s been 3 years since high school. He’s only a junior this year

Yes, he's only a Jr.
But all indications are he’s going to leave regardless.
Oklahoma have some serious offensive line issues and with more seniors leaving they can’t guarantee his protection next season. He leaves for the 2010 draft he’s a lock for a late 1st or second rounder… if he waits and gets injured again because of a piece-meal o-line he could only be a 5th or 6th rounder in 2011.

I'm holding out hopes for a monster trade into the first round.
I don’t think Sam will fall, but I bet the Panthers might make a trade into the first round. Trade the 1st and 3rd round picks for 2011, and the 2nd rounder for 2010 in order to trade up into the middle rounds and grab a franchise QB.
Colt McCoy would be wonderful. He has passed my gut test, and my gut test is hardly ever wrong! Sam Bradford would be good too, but I think he’ll be just an above average QB rather than a Peyton Manning.
I would like for us to grab two QB’s. Grab one in the 1st round, and maybe grab another rookie from a smaller school with a lot of physical talent in the later rounds. We need to totally cleanse our QB position of all its filth.
It’s time for a revival.

well anything could happen come draft time.
They may find a trade for Pep or they could always trade next years 1st. like they have the past two years….
by JC_GSO on Oct 20, 2009 5:03 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
We could trade Pep for a
1st rounder and maybe a 2nd or a 3rd? We have Brayton, Johnson, Brown, Taylor and we’d probably sign Evans of the PS.
by chinchillas sword on Oct 21, 2009 2:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to get that for Peppers
It will be closer in line with what the Patriots got for Matt Cassel (Cassel and Vrabel for 2nd round pick).
Not having Pep truly under contract gives all the power to the buyer, not the seller. We could command a 1st and 3rd rounder for him if he had 3 more years on his deal, but as a franchise player the chance is very slim.

On a side note, Will Witherspoon is an Eagle now. Never should have let him walk either.

We let the one that plays the best potentially go!
And keep the 25-30% cap hits at home.
