Panthers vs Bucs Game Day Open Thread

Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oct 18, 2009 1:00 PM EDT

Are you ready for some football!

I know that's the MNF football slogan but I'm feeling stoked like its Monday Night and my team is playing. I admit it could just be left over euphoria from yesterdays GT victory over VT. Woooo Whoooooo! Is there anyone else happy with yesterday's NCAAF results? But I digress.

So I'm obviously bullish on the Panthers today against their division rival. It's time to even the division record and exit the NFC South basement. It's more a Buccaneer kind of place.

If I had to pick one key to the game for the Panthers its obviously turnovers. The Panthers have not played error free ball yet in 2009, with QB Jake Delhomme carrying a five game INT streak. I'm thinking he breaks it today.

Panthers win, Saints and Falcons lose. Its in the script! I'll stop now before I really jinx us.

This is now an Open Thread & Roll Call!

Go Panthers!

Roll Call (def) The act of commenting on a open blog thread simply to indicate you exist, even if you have never done so before (which makes you a lurker) Ex: "Jaxon here, from Charleston, SC; lurker since 2008; the Bucs suck!

Reject your lurker status, answer the roll call today!

but ill be back after. Hopefully since the bucs season isn’t going well, we can take any advantage the home field crowd may give out of it quick and see a complete solid performance.

Cause Jaxon is going to need this CAR win after the beatdown he gets in FF today…lol

I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.

How many blitz pickups or audibles has jake made that has helped the run game?

Playing QB is more than throwing the ball

True

but none if matters if he’s going to throw the game away

I agree

but we’re willing to absolve the special teams on the KR, yet Jake throws the game away on an INT?

Oh

I’m not absolving the ST at all. I blame them first. But Delhomme isn’t helping

I disagree

True, burt the QB should provide you with the opportunity to win a game and not be a detriment to the team. 10 INT for the year so far and cannot get the ball to one of our best players in SS consistently.

by Davejinxer on Oct 18, 2009 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s football.. Interceptions happen to everyone… Just Delhomme more than most recently… Most important thing is to make the rest of this game count.

by D-Ranged1 on Oct 18, 2009 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Smith has been covered all game.

If he forces the ball, we blame him. When he doesn’t force the ball we blame him?

Jake is definately responsible for some of those INTs, but at least 3 of those 10 are dumb luck.

Talib has had Smitty’s number today.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

Win on the ground, lose through the air.

Agree’d on the need to chill, though, we’ve controlled this game for the most of it, lets end it that way.

by D-Ranged1 on Oct 18, 2009 3:33 PM EDT reply actions

Jake sucks

I’ve been saying it for the better part of a year now. and throws like that are proof. HE IS COSTING US FOOTBALL GAMES.

by Tater596 on Oct 18, 2009 3:34 PM EDT reply actions

Furthermore,

if Jake takes us down the field on a drive and wins the game…. AGAIN then this conversation is all for naught.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

by James Dator on Oct 18, 2009 3:37 PM EDT reply actions

Or is it?

Great, he led us down… against an 0-5 TB team that many think/agree is one of the worst in the league this season.

The conversation...

Would have been all for naught if he hadnt thrown a poor pass in the first place.

Clearly our running game is in charge. The fact it is this close is god awful.

by Tater596 on Oct 18, 2009 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions

We must be able to do something besides run the ball to be competitve every Sunday. This conversation is naught in your mind, however many others believe this is a problem that needs to be resolved for the good of the team.

by Davejinxer on Oct 18, 2009 3:39 PM EDT reply actions

Of course we need to address the situation in the offseason, when it's appropriate.

I don’t advocate benching our starting QB for a backup when the game is tied though.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

Best point to be made is right there.

by D-Ranged1 on Oct 18, 2009 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Because Delhomme hit King for a TD, the special teams let a TD return, and Delhomme threw an INT. There’s more than one man on this football team, I’m sorry.

by D-Ranged1 on Oct 18, 2009 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

No need to be sorry

it’s ok to state an opinion different from others, that is the point of a blog.

by Davejinxer on Oct 18, 2009 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m thinking more long term than short term, since we will not be making much noise this season.

by Davejinxer on Oct 18, 2009 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

That I believe can be agreed upon by all… But I am not too sure this is the game to be making major adjustments… Besides, in the NFL, you’re either hero or zero.

by D-Ranged1 on Oct 18, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Long term, no doubt, we need to find an answer.

I dont think Moore is the answer though.

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

by James Dator on Oct 18, 2009 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Tampa would be winning if Jake didn’t throw the TD to King.

Ever think of that?

Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

by James Dator on Oct 18, 2009 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

We'd be winning

if we tackle on ST or if Delhomme doesn’t throw a pick 6.

I think that pretty well takes care of who to blame

One TD and two INTs

Moore could be the answer…we don’t know. But Jake Delhomme is not the answer and is now just more of an enigma. Tampa Bay is horrible and they are keeping it close with a QB with his 3rd start.
WOW

definitely made their mistakes. Tampa’s Defense has been stout at times. Team effort…right. Wait until we play the Saints, Giants, Minnesota, Patriots….

If we win this game

Jake Delhomme owes the entire O-Line, TEs, and of course Double Trouble an expensive steak dinner.

28-21 Panthers

Despite a nearly anemic passing effort and special teams that disappointed again.
Nothing pretty about the win, but will take the W.

by Davejinxer on Oct 18, 2009 3:59 PM EDT reply actions

Smith was shut down with no other receiving threat.. Moose caught some but he’s hardly considered a passing threat anymore… Great blocking thought… The rest of the receivers rest in obscurity for now.

The O-line was dominating...

in the run game and the D tightened things up after the first drive.

I think finding another receiver would do wonders.. Teams know that we’re weak there.. They know where Delhomme is going when we do attempt to pass.. It’s sad to know our tight ends might be our most productive receivers! lol

Fox gives Jake no confidence vote on last drive

Fox’s refusal to let Jake throw on the last drive says volumes. Moore might not set the world on fire. However, I doubt Moore would put our backs against the wall like Jake has done consistently for the past 12 months or so.

Does anyone honestly think Moore will be worse than Jake? I’d hate to think what Jake’s QB rating is after today. If something isn’t working (i.e. Jake), you should try something else.

Gotta say though, the O-line and Double Trouble’s performance on that last drive was inspiring. I guess the Bucs just got more “We were physically dominated.” film room fodder for next year.

WIN!

Two weeks in a row we beat two pitiful teams. This is like winning an ugly woman contest, what have you really achived. The team as a whole is very talented but we are tied to a post called Delhomme and until we get free from that post we are only going to beat losing teams.

by WarWolf on Oct 18, 2009 4:56 PM EDT reply actions

That could work...

against the Bucs. A better team, they have to be able to pass the ball.

67 yards for Jake- almost none for smith. 1 td and 2 int’s make it a 42.2 rating game.
Terrible!

The stubborness of Fox and the fact that Jake was paid alot of money to remain the starter after a horrible playoff game is why he is still under center.

Anyone saying that Moore could not do any better, I again say give the man a chance.

Fox will say Jake had a bad day to have a bad day and everyone needs to improve..blah blah blah.

I am pesimistic because I’m staring at the stats and facts and don’t buy into blind loyalty except when it comes to family.

I want the team to have the best chance to win.
