Panthers Notes & Quotes: PSL Revocation Rant

We have one day left in the NFL season, one day left to lament what might have been. Even though the SB is being played without my beloved Panthers I will still watch the game just as I have the last 30+ years. It's a game that will be talked about an entire off season and I want to see it for myself just in case history is made. I tend to pull for the NFC and the underdog so with both being the Cardinals I'm looking for some more Warner to Fitzgerald magic. They are going to need it as the Steelers defense is simply put...awesome. I also have to admit I watch it for the commercials, which makes it hard to time your pee breaks.

Back to Panther news, here's some of the more interesting links from the past week:

  • Any Panther stadium PSL owner who didn't buy playoff tickets has had their PSL revoked. I can see both sides of this conflict, a contract is a contract. Yet it is a cold-hearted move given the economic conditions. Sure, they can ‘reinstate' their account for a $228 fee but that is a tough pill to swallow. How much were tickets I wonder? Doesn't this encourage PSL owners to buy tickets and then scalp them? If anyone has a rant please feel free to use this thread.
  • This post captures my mood pretty well at the moment.
  • Steve Reed reports on the newest members of the Panthers roster (can you say TC meat?)
  • Here's a pluff piece on Panthers LT Jordan Gross. I admit Gross is good but I think this article embellishes to say the least.
  • Reed also reports that if the Panthers franchise Gross it would cost the Panthers $8.45M. Signing Gross seems a no-brainer for me. What's taking so long?
  • Is former Panthers C Justin Hartwig getting the last laugh now that he's playing in the SB? Maybe...but at least one Mock Draft thinks the Steelers will draft C Max Unger in April. I find ‘Unger' a very Steeler-like name.
  • If your still hot to switch to a 3-4 here's a good tutorial.
  • For insight across the NFL bookmark SB Nation.com.
  • Here's a good summary of who's picking whom for tomorrow's Super Bowl.
  • Here's some inside info I could have done without.

PSLs are a joke

You have to buy the right to the seat, then buy the tickets on top of that? Divide the PSL price by 8, and add it to the cost of a ticket… and then you could afford better seats. It’s not like tickets are all that hard to get.

How much are/were PSL's?

Seems I remember the initial price was around $2,500? Is that correct?

The ones my family had were about $2000. I would understand it more if tickets were hard to come by.

$3000 was the cheapest price this season

I check into the price around august and the PSL was $3000 for upper deck to $20000 lower deck 50 yard line. The you have to buy the actual tickets. and of course remember the PSL is per seat so if you want 4 seats its 12000 just for the right to by the season tickets.

Wait wait wait! Time out! Flag on the play!

It is my understanding that you buy a season pass at the start of the year. If the Panthers make it to the playoffs, you have your Playoff tickets sent in the mail. That’s what happens this year, and that’s the way the system works isn’t it?

The whole point of buying a PSL is that you pay a large flat fee so that you can get season tickets every year for a little over the price for a front row seat of a regular ticket and go see every game. Buying a PSL also installs a sense of loyalty in your favorite team. You feel like you belong. If you don’t feel like seeing a game or you get sick, you can always go on ticketmaster and sell your seat to someone else.

Last I checked, the regular season did not end at the end of 16 games. You buy season ticket, you go see every game. If the Panthers make it to the playoffs, they send you a ticket in the mail and you’re free to do whatever with it as you wish. I have heard multiple stories that this was true, and I don’t think it’s any different.

I don’t believe that this story is true for a moment. Slow news day. I can’t believe it. I won’t believe it.

See, it says there right on the front page. Read it and weep.

No additional fees after purchasing PSL other than buying your season tickets

False story. Tie it up and take it to the execution hall.

Wow, I saw several articles on that topic

So the whole thing of people losing their PSL’s for not buying playoff tickets is bogus? They got a lot of people on that one.

Unless the whole lot of them got manhandled when they signed their contract.

I don’t know what the specifics of the contract says, but if outside sources say one thing and the contract says another I think that the Panthers would be taken to court for fraud. We’re not takling about nickel and diming here, we’re talking about thousands of dollars that have been dumped on a team so they can go see their games. If someone has that kind of money to do that they usually have the money to sue and get it back. So they would be taken to course, and that’s if the story is true, which I have trouble believing.

I mean, what is the point of buying season tickets if you then have to run and buy regular and playoff tickets as well?

I don't think the Playoff tickets are included in the season ticket price

They season ticket is just that for the season. Since your team may not make the playoff that year, they are not charging for those tickets.

If I remember correctly when I talked to the sales rep in August I believe he said the playoffs where extra but you had the right to first refusal. I don’t remember him saying anything about having to buy the tickets.

Now I'm confused

The story reads that if you don’t but the tickets you lose your PSL. Is there anyone lurking out there who has an answer?

Scam.

That would explain the “Reactivation Fee”
