Another Coaching Move for Panthers and my Thoughts on Julius Peppers
The Panthers defensive line coach, Sal Sunseri, is leaving to become the linebackers / assistant head coach at the University of Alabama according to The Biringham News.
His biography page from the Panthers.com is an interesting read and almost makes me sad to see him leave, although I don't know much about him. While he wasn't fired I do wonder if his acceptance of the job was encouraged by Fox in making subtle moves for Peppers sake.
While I am a bit perturbed at Peppers for his handled of the situation, after being reminded that we've lost both Kris Jenkins and Mike Rucker, and doing very little to replace them, I can see Pepper being a little anxious to find a team that will help him out. Yet this was only after last season and Peppers wanted out before then.
Giving my thoughts on the subject, if he really wanted out this bad he should have said something last year or the year before about wanting to leave. If he really wanted out and wants the best for both him and the team, as he indicated, he should have said something earlier. That way we could have either tried utilizing "his" abilities better or decided to trade him while we still had the chance. Now, if the Panthers want anything in return he has forced the team into franchising him. For those wondering where the hostility is coming from, I think this is probably a large part of it.
Say all you want about how nice of a guy he is, something is definately going on here. Whether it be personal for Peppers or something with the coaching staff, something has to give.

A good question
So thinking about all this….Peppers isn’t the first star defensive player to want to get out of Carolina…Is there something going on as far as coaching? Supposedly we had a “united” locker room this year..so what gives?

Here's another good post on it
It seems to me that it all comes back to the lack of creativity and adjustment by the defense. We the fans were not happy about it and Peppers apparently isn’t either. I really think the Panthers are going to have to choose between having the opportunity to keep Peppers or keep Tyrgovac. They don’t have a lot of time to waffle around on this.

let them both go
I think that Peppers should go, and we should get some nice picks for him. I think is a monster, but we’ve already seen the best of him. The DC should go as well. And losing our DL coach is a joke. Who did he coach? Peppers has natural talent, and the other starters were in place when he showed up. Then during his watch, we get Kemo, Lewis, Walker, Johnson, Hayden, Brayton, McGlover, and others, and he can’t coach any of them to stop the run or to a Pro Bowl vote.
I think our coaches don’t really coach, in the sense of teaching. They all “coordinate”. They tell the players what to do, but none of players really seem to get much better. What you see is what you get. I would like to see us develop some young talent, but it seems we can’t. Plus, the actual coordinating part of it sucks, too, unless you’re a visitor from the Cards site.

Simplified D
During preseason I remember a lot was being made of the simplified D and letting the players just play. I think it did work well early, but once the season dragged on it came back to to bit them. Teams obviously figured them out and after Fitz said he knew exactly where to be on the field since we didn’t change says VOLUMES about the D and lack of imagination.
Fox has a lot to mull over right now and has hard decisions to make. I’m glad I’m on this side and can just appear to know what I’m talking about and not have to worry about the consequences :). All kidding aside, there really is a lot going on right not and regardless of what the final decision there are I know any of them are not easy. I wish Fox and Peppers all the best.
On another note about Peppers, a part of being a leader is also talking to the coaches about this before it gets to far. Maybe Peppers did, but I have my doubts about that. Hopefully they will wake up and realize there is something that needs to be fixed.

Very good point
The simplified D also simplified the opposing OC’s game planning.

I wonder if these defections are a result of anticipated changes?
McCoy is probably just a kid trying to move up but Sunseri has been around the block and his move is more of a lateral move at best

Our defensive coordinator has been offered a contract extension.
You heard right. Right from the Char Observer.

It looks like
the Panthers are not trying to placate Peppers at all. I don’t know if I like this decision or not, I know Fox is responsible for defensive decisions but that game plan against Arizona was beyond horrible and the defense absolutely collapsed at the end of the year. There have to be changes somewhere because the defense could be in for another long year next year if they play like they played at the end of the year.
