New Cheer for Panther Stadium: Snoooop!
The most common player chant heard at Bank of America Stadium the last couple of years has been the unmistakable "Hooov" when Brad Hoover carries the ball. The problem is that Hoover rarely carries the ball, maybe twice in one game at the most. I think we may have a new player cheer in 2008, and we may be hearing it a lot.
I'm not sure why it took so long for us to figure this out but apparently Jonathan Stewart's Oregon nickname is "Snoop". You say it just like "Hooov!" but Snoop instead.
I can only imagine it has to do with his slightly sad eyes like only Snoopy can do in some of his cartoons.
So do you think it will carry over to the Panthers? Here, lets practice:
SSNNOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!!
I think it has potential.
Update: The mystery of the Snoop nickname has been solved:
Those raised eyebrows present an opportunity to correct a mistake - his nickname “Snoop” - that has hounded Stewart for years. “Snootie Pie” became “Snoot” among Stewart’s close circle of family and friends, but that erroneously transformed into “Snoop” in high school and college.
So those aspiring for an insider’s spot in Stewart’s posse should go with “Snoot” instead of “Snoop.”
I think I like "Snoop" better than "Snoot". So much for my 'Snoopy eyes' theory.

Snooop!
But that’s not fair. I’ve actually done that at a game.
Glad to see you the chant being adopted at the next level! :-)

Forgot the quote from DUCKinNY
who told me about in a fan post in the right sidebar.
J-Stew is common, but all his teammates, even going back to high school nicknamed him Snoop. After a great carry by Stewart, you could hear Autzen stadium all scream "Snoop!" – probably needless to say, it was said often.Possible fanshot item, but here is a recruiting tactic Oregon did for one year – they made comic books about their top 20 recruits, and how they would be the hero. It was promptly banned as a recruiting tactic/tool the next year. Here is the entire Stewart comic:
Here’s the link for the comic book covers.

here's some good comments from that post
Stewart ranks seventh in the nation with 130.4 yards per game, but his per-carry average (6.69 yards) is tops among the top 25 running backs. He’s also caught 14 passes, ranks 19th in the nation in kick returns and has eclipsed 100 yards rushing in each of Oregon’s biggest games—Michigan, California and USC.
And here’s the section about the topic at hand:
Those raised eyebrows present an opportunity to correct a mistake - his nickname “Snoop” - that has hounded Stewart for years. “Snootie Pie” became “Snoot” among Stewart’s close circle of family and friends, but that erroneously transformed into “Snoop” in high school and college. So those aspiring for an insider’s spot in Stewart’s posse should go with “Snoot” instead of “Snoop.”
I like Snoop better than Snoot for sure.
