It didn't know this but apparently the Panthers have tried to get Josh McCown in the past only to be rejected Scout.com reports.
McCown will come to Carolina as the Panthers' number two quarterback. In the past, the Panthers have tried to sign McCown in free agency, only to be spurned because of promises of starting elsewhere.
The Panthers gave up their 2009 7th round pick in exchange for McCown.
So how did McCown play for the Dolphins during camp:
McCown would make one good throw, followed by two bad ones, followed by a good one. After Chad Pennington was signed, it was clear to everyone that he would be the starter and Henne the quarterback of the future. The only question was which of the remaining two quarterbacks the Dolphins would keep.
So now he is finally Panther. How long remains to be seen since if Matt Moore recovers quickly McCown may become expendable.
You can find McCowns career stats here. Looks like his best season was 2004 when he started 13 games for the Cardinals. The good on McCown is that he has performed at a high level. The bad is that he has been very consistent. Sounds like good back-up material to me. Seems like a good move in my view.
