Panthers Lose Promising 2nd year Player; Trim Roster
There is nothing more painful to a sports fan than to see a promising young talent see their dream derailed by injury. The Panthers have certainly had their share of injury heartbreak the last few seasons. This year’s first (and hopefully last) season-ending injury was to WR Jason Carter who tore his ACL towards the end of Saturday’s game against the Redskins. The injury occurred at the end of a 30 yard punt return, his best effort of the night.
Here’s to hoping for a full recovery so he can give it another go next season. Good luck Jason.
CB Curtis Deloatch – Deloatch failed to impress enough to unseat Ricardo Colclough who will now make the team given the Carter injury.
DE Casper Brinkley – The home grown product from USC just doesn’t have the speed, size and athleticism to compete at this time. He would have made a great story if he could have somehow found his way on the roster but the Panthers are too deep at DE (did I really just say that?)
TE Chris Conklin – With five TE’s on the roster this was an easy cut as Chad Upshaw has seen more minutes plus he gets the sympathy vote.
QB Lester Ricard – Ricard played pretty good at times and showed improvement though out camp. Whether he gets a shot with another team I don’t know but he has nothing to feel bad about. The kid gave it all he could but Brett Basanez has a better grasp on the offense and looked a little more polished with his mechanics and throws.
Don’t forget the Panthers play on Thursday night again as they complete the preseason against the Steelers.
