Brett Favre to the Panthers? Yeah right.

This is usually the kind of rumor you see coming out of Cowboy land but instead it involves our beloved Panthers.

Favre has hinted recently that he might be interested in coming out of retirement, if the football bug bites him when training camp starts. The Los Angeles Times, without citing any sources, reported Friday that Favre could resurface with Tampa Bay, Carolina, Chicago or Minnesota.

But Favre also told The (Biloxi, Miss.) Sun Herald, "It's all rumors."

My wife for one would love this move (She loves Brett). The rest of us are like “Why in the world would the Panthers be interested in Brett Favre?” Forget asking why he might even consider coming here, but it just doesn’t fit the Panther philosophy or 2008 game plan at all. I’m positive they are content with Jake’s rehab and expect him to perform at a high level in 2008.

Also, don’t you love that the LA Times can print such a thing and not even name the source? My apologies for carrying the rumor forward on this blog but we just don’t get this type of rumor very often. Whoever started it should receive a public lashing or at least get a real job they can handle.

meh

If Delhomme went down and Favre were available- I’d be calling for the Panthers to sign him right away.

That said, in the middle of July, this is completely ridiculous.

Also, I’m for the protection of journalists’ sources, so that part doesn’t bother me too much (assuming there is a source(s) at all, and not just speculation).

sources

I’m with you, I don’t mind at all the use of unnamed or anonymous sources. But this is presented as “without citing any sources”, which means literally “unfounded and fabricated.”

hurney

I saw Hurney on NFL Live and he said he has no idea where it came from, but if the Panthers were interested in Favre, he would like to know. He thinks our QBs are fine.

Slow

All the NFL talk right now is slow not much is happening so that probably is the whole reason this idea was brought up it is just publicity(and drum up some football talk for a little while) for the los angeles times.

plus why would the los angeles times get this information when brett farve doesn’t even live close to california and none of the teams named are close to california either.
