Early QB Ratings Released: Delhomme #13

Matt Miller with New Era Scouting (and SBN site Mocking the Draft ) has released his QB rankings. Of course opinions at this point in the year are very speculative because of all the roster changes from team to team. Panthers QB Jake Delhomme comes in at #13 .

Here’s the top 13.

Name- Team- Grade- Stats (TD/INT/Yards/Rating)
1. Tom Brady -NE -10 - 50/8/4806/117.2
2. Peyton Manning -IND- 10- 31/14/4040/98.0
3. Drew Brees -NO -9 -28/18/4423/89.4
4. Matt Hasselbeck- SEA- 9- 28/12/3966/91.4
5. Ben Roethlisberger -PIT -8 - 32/11/3154/104.1
6. Carson Palmer -CIN- 8 26/20/4131/86.7
7. Donovan McNabb -PHI- 8 19/7/3324/89.9
8. Tony Romo -DAL -8 -36/19/4211/97.4
9. Derek Anderson- CLE- 8- 29-19-3787-82.5
10. Marc Bulger -STL -8 -11/15/2392/70.3
11. Eli Manning -NYG- 8- 23/20/3336/73.9
12. David Garrard -JAC -7 -18/3/2509/102.2
13. Jake Delhomme- CAR- 7- 8/1/624/111.8

Thanks for the effort Matt (though I’m still a little sore you blasted my mock draft picks!) Ha!...not really. I have pretty thick skin having been a GT fan for 20+ years.

Now I could argue with a couple names ranked higher than Jake but he’s coming off a serious injury. You could also argue Miller is giving him too much credit considering he isn’t fully recovered yet. I’m pretty confident come January Jake will have moved up this list dramatically (Top 6 IMO). For now I’m ok with Jake remaining under-rated as I hope it gives him and the whole offense a chip on their shoulder.

QB Matt Moore: "You're supposed to be over here Jarrett!"

This picture is actually listed as a Jake picture on the Panther website but the number on the shorts alerted me. I liked the caption I came up with so I kept it up!

Of course I can’t end this post without commenting on a couple names on the list. The first thing that struck me was Drew Brees coming in at #3. Sure I think he’s top 10 but honestly he had one really good season and has been serviceable otherwise. I don’t think Brees is better than Big Ben, Donovan McNabb or Carson Palmer. You could make the same case with Derek Anderson in the top 10, one good season. I’m also surprised Tony Romo and Eli Manning are ranked higher, not because I think their good but because they are the media darlings. I guess that’s the difference between a scout’s rankings and an ESPN ‘journalist’ (or myself for that matter). Scouts typically don’t buy into the hype.

Anyone else have any comments or alternative captions?

I’ve been looking at this list and I have a couple comments. I like Drew Brees at #3, and I think the Chargers would’ve won a Superbowl or two if they kept him and Marty. Eli, Derek Anderson and Donovan McNabb will disappoint this year. I can’t stand McNabb, and over the last three years, he has more games than anyone on this list, and has lost more games than he’s won. I also think Jake’s numbers are inflated, but he’s better than #13. Last season, he had a 74 yard TD that was all Steve Smith (vs Houston) and another touchdown that was a bad throw that Smith had to tip to himself over the defender. Without those two plays, his QB rating would’ve been below 90. However, I think the 2003 Jake Delhomme will be back, but better, and he’ll be a Pro Bowl QB this year.

I think Anderson will play well again

Cleveland has respectable passing game now. Eli will be Eli..nothing special. I hope Brees takes a nose dive. I’m working on a post about the SBN Saints site talking smack to our Panthers. It’s still a little early to get the smack going though.
