NFL Draft Day 2 Open Thread

I'm still in shock at day 1. The Panthers got their big RB in Jonathan Stewart and  the tackle they wanted in Jeff Otah. The big question as to whether the Panthers paid too much for Otah by giving up next years #1.

Let's talk about that later because we have round three up next. I expect the Panthers to address the defense today. We have defensive tackles Marcus Harrison and Dre Moore available. There is also safety DeJuan Morgan.

I'm not going to bother with predictions because the only thing you can say about them is they will be wrong!

#67 Pick - CB Charles Godfrey

Hmm..not too sure about this one. The Panthers need a CB?

Godfrey

is a FS in the NFL.
This is a good pick, fills the need.

strategy

He is a good pick, but I think the Panthers strategy included keeping him from the Falcons who picked a CB with the next pick.  If he really is pretty good, then keeping him from Atlanta, especially since they need to replace D-Hall, is a good thing.  I like the Dan Conner pick.  We know Thomas Davis and Nail Diggs get it done, but they could use some competition to step up their play.  A 1st rd value drafted on day one, Conner might have that chip on his shoulder to either get him on the field quick like Jon Beason, or get Davis to play like we thought he would when we drafted him.

That TE seems like a pretty good pick, maybe the best receiving TE we've had since Wesley Walls, but I think Jeff King did pretty well last season.  We could've used a DT somewhere in there.  I hate that the Bucs got Josh Johnson.  I think that he'll be there starter in 2010, and will start for them for the next decade.

Godfrey

I certainly didn't see CB as a need. This must be one of those 'best player on our board" picks. They better get a DT with this next one.

More on Godfrey

Just watched ESPN's spotlight on him. He played safety through his sophomore season but then moved to corner. He had 5 INT's last season. He could certainly be moved to safety as an option. I'm feeling better about this pick.

Dan Conner

Didn't think we needed a linebacker either.  The analyst are speaking highly of him though.  Where is the DE???

I'm confused...

Our two deepest positions on defense was CB and LB and here we are ignoring DT and picking a LB. Many people had Conner going in the first round so its probably another BPA pick. I just wonder where he's going play?  We have 4 good LB's already. He's more a Strong side.

With no 4th rounder we have a little wait to see what they do next.
