OT Ryan Clady Impresses Panthers on Pro Day
It seems Ryan Clady has reasserted his place in the Top 10 in April NFL draft.
Clady ran his 40-yard dash in 5.18 seconds, unofficially. He showcased a vertical leap of 31 inches and a broad jump of nine feet. All three efforts would have placed him in the top 10 among lineman at the NFL Scouting Combine. The vertical was better than any offensive linemen's at the event.
What about his bench press you ask?
Clady, who did not do the bench press Monday, showed no ill effects from the strained pectoral muscle that knocked him out of last week's combine. During line drills, he showed the explosiveness and athleticism that brought scouts from around the country.
So he skipped the combine for a strained peck? Hmmm...I can’t help it but when millions of dollars are involved I’m always immediately suspicious. Can me a pessimist, it’s a character flaw. In return I’ll give you the polar opposite thought from Clady’s agent Paula Adbul:
"Everyone, to a man, said he blew them away. He was extremely athletic, extremely quick," his agent Pat Dye Jr. said after the session. "Quick hands. Quick feet. That's what you look for in a great pass blocker and that's what they pay people in this league at his position to do."
I hope someone else takes him early so we don’t have to make what would be a very hard decision. He could go as high as #5 to Kansas City. Others that may grab him before the Panthers pick are the Patriots at #7 and the Bills at #11.

As I said before...
he's not as powerful as I'd like. During last year's Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma, he got absolutely bent backwards by a blitzing linebacker on a first-quarter goal-line rushing play to his side. (They scored anyway, running wide left.) So I'm disappointed that he didn't lift. I'd like to know exactly how strong (or not) he actually is. I know he's got amazing athleticism, but I want to see that he's gotten stronger since his sophomore year.
Still, he's an incredible talent, with outstanding pass-blocking skills, and he'll have a great NFL career. As a contrast to your own dour disposition, I'm excited about the prospect of that career happening in Carolina.

I wouldn't be disappointed
I'll be happy with any of the top 5 OT's, including Clady. Going OT is a good pick, I just think Clady presents a little more risk compared to most of the others. His 40 was good ...but not great. What about the condition of the strained peck? When is he going to do a formal bench press? What if he only gets 12-16 reps...? Sorry, I'm being dour again...
Go Panthers!

clady
Ryan Clady got injured while benching at the combine and still posted 24 reps. Chris Williams while healthy only managed 21 reps. Clady"s peck is fine as evidenced by his positional workout the scouts put him through footwork and punch drills he handled the bull rush well and had great hand placement. He is the real deal unfortunately for Panther fans he won't be around at #13 so enjoy Chris Williams and his 21 fully healthy reps.
