Free Agent Signing Spotlight: WR DJ Hackett
You can find a nice little recap of DJ Hacketts 2007 season here via SB Nations Seahawks blog Field Gulls.
Here’s a key stat: 1 drop
As you read the comments from that blog you can tell immediately that they wanted Hackett back, confirming that the only thing holding him back from a productive season is injuries.
I agree...
When Hackett's been around and healthy, he's been great,...
Also, Seahawks fans thought Hackett would command a lot more money than the Panthers signed him for, making them wonder why the Seahawks were unable to bring him back.
Wouldn't that depend
on how much he costs? Sure, if someone offers him $4-5 million, as I've seen speculated, there's no way we take that risk; but if we can get him for a year down near the minimum, wouldn't that be worth doing?
Certainly the Redskins offered him more money but I think he preferred Carolina over Redskins. I have to give kudos to Hurney, Fox and their recruiting effort. To have a player probably turn down more money from a playoff team to play for a franchise that hasn’t made the playoffs in two seasons says a lot.
The Panthers were able to convince Hackett that they plan to return to the playoffs this season, and Hackett bought it! He's a smart guy and I like him already!
==========
Here's another link to Hacketts career Pro stats.
His career highlight was the Redskins vs. Seahawks wild-card match-up this past season.
6 rec 101 yds 16.8 avg 1 TD
Very nice game and I hope we see more of this from DJ

That's nice and all. There were times where he seemed to be playing at a higher level than Branch. We now have one of the best receiving corps in the league, and Jarrett is a good #4. Of course, Robinson can prove to be a better receiver than him also.
Nonetheless, I heard the Vikings might let Bryant McKinnie walk. If so, I want him. We can trade somebody or just let Gross walk after this season. He'd be an instant upgrade to the line.
I also heard we're trying to get Tyler Drayton. If we can get McKinnie and Drayton, combined with our other FA signings, I think it then becomes a no-brainer to draft Kenny Phillips in the 1st rd, and head on to the Superbowl.

Drayton
Isn't he the guy that kicked someone in the crotch, got suspended. What team was he on?
