Panthers Trade in the Carr for a Moose
In a move that comes none too soon for many Panther fans, the Panthers released QB David Carr.
"This was a very unusual season for us at quarterback," Panthers general manager Marty Hurney admitted. "And David was a part of that. He did everything we asked, but, unfortunately, it didn't work out like anyone had hoped or expected. David is an excellent person, and we wish him the best.
I’m sure we all would have wished last season went better for Carr. I think he was very unprepared to take over when Jake Delhomme went down. If Jake stays healthy then we probably rarely see him in a game and he coasts through the season. Being thrust into the limelight left Carr somewhat shell-shocked and his play regressed to the point he became the focus point of all that was wrong in Charlotte..
Carr quickly became a favorite in Charlotte...favorite whipping boy. Even if the Panthers wanted to keep Carr the fan base wouldn’t have it. The blogs and message boards in Panther nation have been blazing Carr since October and they would not stop until he was gone.
My all accounts David Carr is a good person, a good team mate and stand-up citizen. That doesn’t mean I want him quarterbacking my favorite team again but I wish him luck in landing a less visible back-up role.
Here’s what we save:
The Panthers are expected to save more than $2 million under the cap by cutting Carr, including a $1 million roster bonus that he was due.

Panthers Sign WR Muhsin Muhammad
I’ve been sweating this signing since I posted the rumor on Sunday. I don’t like to perpetuate rumors unless I’m pretty sure its true but I must say I was getting worried. Though I was unsure if I wanted Moose back when you look at it as trading David Carr for him it seems a little better. I think Moose is going to be a good addition when the second half of the season rolls around.
The reason I hesitate is that I think the Panthers need a playmaker at WR and unless you count a good downfield blocker as a playmaker I don’t think that is Moose. He may be good for some 3rd down conversions through the season.
No word on details of the contract yet.

Carr driven away
Everyone knows that in the NFL if you don't produce you move on. I too wish David Carr well. Sorry things did not work out.
That said I would also like to see Matt Moore move up to the #2 spot at QB. I am a bit conserned why we signed Brett Basanez, unless it is to trade him at draft time. ??? Maybe the Panthers just want to see what happens between now and the start of the season.
However, In my opinion, Matt should haved earned the #2 spot.
Do the Panthers need three QB's, Probably not if we have a Great Oline with depth to it. Thats why I would be thinking Oline for the first two picks in the draft.

He must have potential
I'm not sure why we keeping Basanez either. He didn't look that good to me in camp before he got hurt. The Panthers must see something because otherwise I see no need for 2 developing QB's.
I think we need to spend the first or second pick on the OL. The other pick should be a DE.

keeping basanez
I don't know why we kept the guy, but i think it is one of those loyalty things as he definitely would've been on the field last year if he didn't get hurt. Moore is a solid #2 in my opinion, and he'll be better with Moose. The question now is what do we do with the Jarrett, Colbert, Carter headless horsemen triad. I think Colbert gets curt and Carter better learn to be a good special teams gunner, or he gets cut, too.
