Pro Bowl Moving In Several Ways

I'm a little stunned by this move. I'm not surprised the NFL will move the Pro Bowl to a different city every year, that only makes sense. It will give more fans access to players they would otherwise not have a chance to see.

What surprises me is this:

"Moving the Pro Bowl to the Sunday prior to the Super Bowl can add even more excitement to Super Bowl week, one of the most anticipated weeks of the year," said Frank Supovitz, the NFL’s senior vice president of events. "Taking the Pro Bowl to new locations can showcase our top players to more fans around the country. We are also in discussions with key leaders in Hawaii to continue our partnership with the State of Hawaii, which has embraced the Pro Bowl for 30 years."

So I guess if your playing in the Super Bowl you bow out of the Pro Bowl? Certainly we wouldn't risk injury to our star players before the big game that actually means something. I'm curious how the players would feel about it.

Consider this scenario. What if RB Clinton Portis can't play in the Pro Bowl so DeAngelo Williams takes his spot as the alternate. Yet the Panthers make the SB so he has to defer to the 2nd alternate. Maybe Williams, who has never been to the PB really wants to go. I mean who wouldn't want to rub elbows with the league's best players? I guess he could still attend but maybe that impacts the SB prep schedule.

Maybe I'm making a bigger deal out of this than it is but having the PB the week before the SB seems scketchy at best. I admit it would probably increase the viewership since we are still in our football junky stage waiting for the SB. What does everyone else think?

Not much interest

I’ve never been a big fan of the pro-bowl and I doubt the new time would change it for me. Yet I think it’s a good move and even if those in the SB don’t get to play, I bet they would rather be in the SB than the PB.
