Panthers Win NFC South; Beat Saints 33-31
In epic Cardiac Cat fashion the Panthers watched a big lead evaporate only to awaken in time to score the winning FG with 6 seconds on the clock. John Kasay redeemed himself from last weeks miss by nailing the game winner with 6 seconds on the clock. Though there is plenty to worry about with the loss of a big lead and two key injuries to the offensive line the Panthers can go home assured of an extra week to heal and gamer plan.
The Carolina Panthers are 2008 NFC South division champs! They are the #2 seed in the NFC and a serious Super Bowl contender. It feels pretty good to type that when at the beginning of the season we would have been happy simply with a playoff berth.
In contrast to a big first half from RB's DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart the Panthers used the Delhomme to Smith combination to rescue the Panthers. The 39 yard catch on the final drive was eerily similar to the TD catch Smith scored in the first Saints game.
The injuries to back-up guard Geoff Hangartner and RT Jeff Otah are big concerns. It forced Jordan Gross back over to the other side as the Panthers played the 4th quarter with their last 5 offensive linemen. It was a gutty performance by the big guys.
Let's here from you Panther fans! 12-4 baby!

How many times
have we seen a lead blown in the 4th quarter? Of course they have come back in the 4th a few times as well. I will take the win anyday. Go Panthers and get healthy!

Fox plays conservative
… and the D just isn’t playing well enough for us to hold a lead. Cut Lucas in the off season and find a way to get more pressure up the middle.

Deangello deserves a lot of credit
But without Smith’s catch in the last drive, Deangello’s day would have been squat

Same here!
ATL @ ARI
PHI @ MIN
that’s the first round…
Philly’s been hot, if they win… the Panthers will have a rematch with either ATL or ARI in the playoffs.

And if not...
then we’ll have a rematch with Minny, but this time at home.

I'd be more comfortable with Arizona.
At least they don’t have a running game.

I don't know about that...
100 yards on 14 carries for Edge today.
Benching Edge for Hightower was dumb; bring Edge back could be huge for them in the playoffs.

Much rather see Philly win and go against the Giants
We can beat either ATL or ARI at home. If Philly beats the Giants then we host them (if we win our first game)

I was kinda upset about the defense.
Whenever the Panthers get ahead, they fall into a prevent defense that always allow the short yardage gains that just KILL our team in the passing game. I’m alright if a team runs right back and makes it a game. It’s exciting that way.
But for god’s sake. Make them earn it! Don’t give it to them!

More than kinda
Unfortunately that’s a common occurrence from John Fox’s Defense. Once his team gets a lead he plays not to lose instead of to win. That’s pretty much the only thing that bothers me about Fox. But overall he’s a good coach and his approach has put the panthers at #2 in the NFC playoffs and a season record of 12-4 so he’s go something going.
But it’s painful to watch.

Prevent would be fine if we were getting QB pressure up the middle… that would make all the difference! Our DTs can’t collapse the pocket.

A win is a win
Extra week to heal. I’m sure they won’t whither in Charlotte.

One thing I would like to see is for the Panthers to work on their hands.
Too many dropped INT’s. Not during that game, but during the whole last quarter of the season overall. Bad passes like them are rare in the playoffs, so if a bad pass is thrown we need to take advantage of it.
Well guys, we made it to the playoffs. Am I the only one excited?

Not hardly...I'm stoked
I’m not the kind of fan who gets pissed because we didn’t win in a certain dominate fashion. I’ll take a win anyway I can get it. Yes, the defense giving up a big lead is a concern but the the offense rallied and bailed them out. I’m more worried about the injuries but we’ll just have to talk about this awesome season the Panthers just finished until be get the updates.
