Four Panthers Selected to Play in Pro Bowl
The Panthers placed four players on the Pro Bowl squad, 2 as starters and 2 as reserves:
Starters:
Jordan Gross - Left tackle
Julius Peppers - Defensive End
Reserves:
Steve Smith - Wide Receiver
Jon Beason - Linebacker
So let the controversy begin due to perceived snubs of RB DeAngelo Williams and kicker John Kasay.
Here's a few other eyebrow raisers in my view:
- NFC DT starter Jay Ratliff - Cowboys (huh?)
- NFC FS Nick Collins - Packers (This guy has been French toast the last 4 games)
- AFC starting RB is Thomas Jones - Jets (So the Bears thought he was washed up?)
- AFC DT Kris Jenkins - Jets (We knew he would rebound for a new team)
So what do you think Panther fans? Much better than last year when the entire NFC South got shut out.

Turner over Williams...I think not
Williams is averaging 5.5 yards a carry compared to Burners 4.3 plus Williams has a league high 16 touchdowns……bunch of bull….
Also….no Matt Ryan….i hate the guy but he played so much better then EIi….
Beason should be the starter as well.
At least SS and Peppers got the nods they deserve…..

Well, it comes down to impact on the team, in some instances.
This is one of them. Without DeAngelo, who’s had a magnificent year, we’d still be alright at RB. Without Turner, they’d be a vastly different team. Like NY without Jacobs (who also shares carries, who also didn’t make it).
So I just don’t know if you can look at numbers in this instance. I mean, if you’re looking at total touchdowns scored, you’re looking at DeAngelo and Brian Westbrook, neither of whom made it.
Anyway, Portis’ selection is a complete sham. Same with Leonard Davis. Kick his over-paid butt out, put in Travelle Wharton.

DWill go the shaft
Yeah but they looked over one VERY important stat that DeAngelo boasts over all of them… Turnovers! RB fumbles usually lead to the other team putting points on the board. DWill has 0! But I guess nowadays a flashy reputation is more important then taking care of the ball.

Anybody catch the Pro Bowl Selection show over on NFL Network?
Bad, bad, bad. At one point, when Coach Mora was talking about Adrian Peterson, I had to pause it, walk out of the room and do anything else, then come back and fast forward through his squealing chatter. Imagine a six-year-old girl who just got a pony, except she’s saying “They try to stop this guy, but they just can’t do it!”
Ouch.
And, ya know, Solomon Wilcots is an idiot. I’d have much rather had Sterling Sharpe, Marshall Faulk or Rod Woodson talking about the players who made it or didn’t. They always have something interesting to say; not Wilcots. I guess I should be thankful it wasn’t Jamie Dukes, but still….

Did anyone hear about the snub of Abraham from the Falcons?
You talk about a snubbing….good god. This guy has 15.5 sacks and he doesn’t make it to the Pro-Bowl? Does anyone in Atlanta have a computer?

Assuming Peppers and Tuck deserve to start
and I think they do, then it comes down to Jared Allen vs John Abraham.
As I’m forming my team, Abraham’s on it. I’d actually take him and a bottle of Advil over Tuck. But Allen’s the bigger name at this point, and it’s just that traditional anti-NFC South bias that most people have. Hard to know how awesome Abraham is if the South never gets games on prime-time.
FYI, any idea which two teams currently have played five (!) of their games in prime-time? That’s right, more than one-third of the games they’ve played this season have been nationally-televised evening games. And neither of them are locks for the playoffs. Of course you know what division they’re in… the NFC East.
Got your guesses? Here’s the answer: it’s the Cowboys and the Eagles! And, of course, that doesn’t include Thanksgiving games, etc.
Have I mentioned that the NFC East is completely over-rated? I think I have. NFC North is, too. Bears and Vikings get way more press than they deserve. I think that has a lot to do with the selection of Allen over Abraham. And the shameful selection of John Carney over John Kasay.

garbage
We all know the Pro Bowl voting is garbage. What sucks is that they look at how many times you made it when they’re making Hall of Fame decisions. It’s pretty obvious that D-Will is one of the best RBs in the league. He has 17 TDs and has anyone run for more yards over the last six weeks. This is the way it works. When it’s your first year having a great season, players don’t want to vote for you. Opposing coaches are obviously biased, and fans vote for who they know. Therefore, if you’re all over NFL network in the first month of the season, you’ve got an early head start on the Pro Bowl, even if you stink up December because the voting is done three weeks before the final game. Why do they even end it and announce it so early. Imagine if everyone was voting for the President, and they just announced the winner on Oct 30th, and it was someone you didn’t know was even running. These guys need to get it together. Obviously D-Will should get in. He’s a better football player than Turner. At least no back-ups got in like Marion Barber last year.

Next year
I’m going to make an effort to get out the vote for deserving Panther players similar to what other SBN sites did this year.

the money
It’s all about the money. We know the Pro Bowl is no longer the best players as votedon by their peers. The players to get to vote, but it doesn’t mean the same as it used to. Everyone knows that D-Will should have made it, and I’m going to assume right now that someone gets hurt, and he gets on.
However, if the people get to vote, and they get what they voted for, they’re most likely going to watch the game. The more viewers they get, the more money they make. Goodell is a businessman, and it’s really all about money and keeping us entertained enough to spend some more.
