News Flash: Panthers vs Giants will play for NFC Top Seed
Sunday, December 21, 2008 @ 8:00 PM (EST). Mark the calendar, call in the babysitter, send the family on vacation, we face our biggest game of the season and in franchise history during the regular season. We are playing for the top seed in the playoffs for the NFC.
We are now tied at 11-3 with the New York Giants after their loss to the Dallas Cowboys. And while we didn't clinch a playoff spot with a Dallas loss, the winner of our next match-up guarantees the top seed in the NFC with home field through out the playoffs. It doesn't matter what happens in the the final game. It won't be easy but nobody expect us to be in this current position.
Stay tuned all week for game coverage.

I cannot wait
After today’s win, the panthers imo are playing their best football right now and at the most important time.

the line and history
Well, this game is pretty important, it’s not the biggest in franchise history. If only Kasay had the kept the kickoff in-bounds, I think we would’ve won the Super Bowl.
Anyway, I remember a couple games ago, we lost 45-28. Beason said 28 points should have been enough. Well since then, we’ve scored 35,38 and 30. Our offense is the real deal. It reminds me of Tampa’s Super Bowl run when everyone was talking about their defense, but their offense was putting up close to 30 during the last month. Well we’re over 30 and we’ve got enough pass rushers to get 8 sacks on Eli next weekend, too. Our offensive line hasn’t played together for very long. The turning point was when we got all five starters on the field at one time, and none of them has missed a start since. Because of that, D-Will has 16 TDs this year. Life is good.
Sorry, about that meant, franchise history for the regular season.
We have never been first place in the playoffs.
Who
went over to MHR and was talking junk, I saw the south guy did, and who is he, I don’t remember seeing him on here b4 the TB game…
and the post I saw I thought he was pretty respectful and wasn’t talking junk and they just took it the wrong way…
southtunnell has actually been posting here from close to the beginning
and he usually does go over to the other blogs and talk a little smack after a win but he’s never very bad. It was mainly two people, Pantherman and SteveinCarolina I think, who were bad. they aren’t regulars over here. MHR will be fine, we all have to be willing to take a little ribbing when we lose. It is, after all, just a game.
Wow, to have a chance to play for the #1 seed is still surreal for me. And we are catching the Giants at a very opportune time. Hopefully Jacobs will stay out another game.

My apologies
to southtunnel, didn’t realize you were a veteran, just hadn’t seen much of you around (and I’m new this season myself!)
and anyway I thought he did a good job of respectful junk talking, but I also enjoy the MHR blog, they have some good football info on there.
Jaxon, keep up the good work and hopefully one day we’ll have the fan support built up where we have to have different open blogs for each quarter…
and I think Jacobs being out it wishful thinking, it is my understanding that he could have gone last night but they held him out because it wasn’t a must win. So he should be back in full force against the panthers. but from what I saw the NYG O-line looked week, hopefully peppers and company can have a field day!!!
GO PANTHERS!

I know, 500 comments...per quarter!
MHR is one of our bigger blogs. Our top football blogs (Cowboys, Bills, Dolphins, Giants, and a few more) average 3-5,000 users…per day. So 500 comments a quarter is about average.
I finally found what they were talking about and it was mainly a dud called Pantherman who has never posted on this site. He was pretty bad, just repeating the same smack over an over. Didn’t cuss much but again, said a lot of childish stuff. I bet he’s 13-14 yrs old or something. He got some dudes at MHR pretty pissed though.

Worth noting...
Fishy The Mermaid was really touchy about any dissent from her/his (not trying to be gender-assuptive, but mermaids are girls, right?) point of view. As a matter of fact, she/he called me at various points “an asshole”, “a moron” and another choice name that I forget. And I’m not going to go look it up. That was the only person over there with whom I had any beef, or who had any beef with me, so it’s no wonder (in my mind) that she/he showed up over here to say even more derogatory things about us.
Everyone else had a fine attitude, even toward the trolls. That, in itself, is pretty astounding.
All in all, I was blown away by how great MHR is. And you aren’t joking, 500 comments per quarter is amazing! I hope CSR can get there at some point.

Look...
I consider myself the MHR guard dog…and many over there have made it clear that my role is appreciated. When I feel that someone is out of line, as Southtunnel and to a lesser extent yourself clearly were, then I deal with them harshly. MHR, and hopefully most SB nation sites, is a place for fans to have a positive fan environment away from the negativity of MSM sites. You and Southtunnel made it clear early that you did not come over for a ‘positive’ discussion. In the case of you two the harsh treatment was clearly effective as both of you immediately improved your tone (until Southtunnel found it necessary to come over to gloat after the game). That is usually the case. However, as I indicated elsewhere, there were several more that were significantly worse than you two. I think that you found Broncos fans very respectful of your site leading into the game…I wish that you had done the same.
GO BRONCOS!!!

Since it's I'm sure you're going to argue...
Southtunnel first introduced himself to us by insulting one of our staff writers. In response to one of our regulars complementing our staff writers on an well written article, he responded, "Nice piece???? What! This makes no sense…the sorry Broncos D…(we’ll) punch you in the mouth". He continued to trash talk us and insult our players (“Chump who? never heard of him”).
Trash talking our players I can handle…but you simply don’t insult amateur writers on a ‘homer’ fan site and expect to be treated well (and I shouldn’t even have to tell you that). That’s trolling. It sort of surprises me that Jaxon is willing to side with Southtunnel because according to his profile (as of this post) he has commented 43 times as CSR and 38 times at MHR (numbers indicative of a troll).
That’s when r3 decided to come in and argue on Southtunnel’s behalf and started calling me names (Fishy for example). As I explained before, when you argue on behalf of a troll you are going to be considered guilty by association. It’s not rocket science. Furthermore, Southtunnel came around several times during the game and after the game gloating under the guise of "here I was trying to say that I respect the Broncos have injuries". I doubt that’s what he meant when he said, ""tell me that at least one person out there, gained some respect from the little ol’ no-name Carolina Panthers???" or "What did I tell ya? How does Marshall compare to Steve Smith now?" That’s just gloating and behaving like a troll.
Add this to several other Carolina fans acting that way and imagine how I respond when I find r3 explaining, “The Mermaid was really touchy about any dissent”. It’s not dissent that I have a problem with. It’s trolls. I’m really ‘touchy’ about people who insult our writers and members. While I agree with Jaxon that we should all expect “a little ribbing” after a loss…I think you can agree that we got a lot more than “a little ribbing” after a loss.
I’m sure none of you will be willing to acknowledge that you acted like a jackass on a public forum. However, hopefully I will have encouraged you to handle your football team’s success with a little more dignity in the future.
GO BRONCOS!!!

Not going to get into some pissing match with you again.
But you insulted me, personally, without cause.
It’s like beating a dog: all it does is reflect poorly on you without effecting the change you’re looking for.

Again...your first comment to me started,
“He does have a point, Fishy.” (“He” being the guy who was on a vendetta against our writer, members, and team)
If you can’t understand why that evoked a negative response then, as I said before, there is no point in continuing this exchange with you.
However, I bet you do think twice before behaving that way in the future at someone else’s site.
GO BRONCOS!!!

Mermaid, I think the point is
that your ultimate control is to delete any comments that are offensive and to ‘warn’ and then ‘ban’ any users that continue to ‘act like trolls’. Getting into these long arguments only gives the troll what they were looking for…an argument. If you want to be the ’Bulldog" and respond to all negative comments then I guess thats your choice.
I obviously don’t agree with what Southtunnell said nor do I want to validate his right to say it on MHR. I can’t control it either (on MHR) but you can (I assume) or the Guru can. I still think the best policy is to ignore it if you think its childish but respond if you think there is some kind of point. I think “Blogging the Boys” handles trolls pretty well, they ignore then. I’ve gone over there looking for an argument in the past, post some smack, and …nothing. They just ignore me. If you cross the line then Grizz deletes the comment and sends you a warning. I hope Guru sent Pantherman a warning at the least because he deserved it.
Hope this helps. I think for the most part my users were very impressed with the quality and quntity of posting on MHR.
I blog the Carolina Panthers at www.catscratchreader.com
Fair enough...
and I think MHR readers were impressed and appreciative of the quality and depth of your response to our questions.
Again…I think you definitely have a nice site here.
I was just trying to encourage some members to be a little more ‘mindful’ when traveling.
GO BRONCOS!!!

Calm down Mermaid
I ripped one piece, but commented the writers intellect on another. Have you ever been to a game? Played an athletic sport? What do you want… for us all to hold hands and sing Cumbaya?
on behalf of tha dirty south: soul food, carolina blue, southern hospitality, and tha queen city
My schedule is up and down
Some weeks I have time to get on here, others I don’t. I still don’t get why smack talk is a part of every facet of sports, yet Mermaid doesn’t want it on SB. Let me know if you guys think I need to tone it down.

Thanks to Jaxon and others
From a Bronco fan, I appreciate the good words from Jaxon and others from CSR. Congratulations on a great win. What I really want to say is: Beat the Giants! I’m already tired of Eli and his bunch, and I admire Coach Fox and your team. I wanted the Broncos to take Stewart in the first round, but I have to admit that I’m glad we got Clady instead.
Anyway, just beat the Giants please.

If you guys had taken Stewart then I think we would have taken Clady
funny how it works out

southtunnel
I think Southtunnel is right, and the mermaid should get over it. It’s just a game, and being a blog watchdog is pretty absurd. There were times when there were some inappropriate posts on here and Jaxon deleted them. It’s actually pretty simple. The truth is that the Broncos players aren’t emotional about it, they’re preparing for next week. If the Panthers are gloating over it, they’ll lose next week. Those guys played the game, and they got over it, so what’s up with mermaid?
