Ask Acme Packing Company About the Packers
Hi, I'm Brandon from over at Acme Packing Company, the SB Nation blog where we gather and talk amongst ourselves about the Green Bay Packers.
Last week, the Saints warmed up on Saturday by dropping the deuce on Tom Benson's car. Then on Monday night, QB Drew Brees and the offense dropped another one on the Packers' defense. It wasn't a great offensive performance either. QB Aaron Rodgers was picked off twice by CB Jason David (seriously) and RB Ryan Grant was held under 100 yards rushing for the umpteenth time this season. But it's hard to fault an offense that still managed 4 TD drives.
What questions do you have about the Green Bay Packers?

Who would you rather have as QB?
Let’s cut to the chase. Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers? Who would you rather have?

A-Rod is better
I have yet to say A-Rod play in an actual big game, but I sure have seen enough Favre passes that he just throws up there and I’ve had enough of it. Even if its not good for the Packers (we get a first round pick if the Jets make the Superbowl), it’d be nice Schaudenfraude to see Favre throw up a pass like that for the Jets in the playoffs.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Rodgers
Over the course of 16 games I’d rather have Rodgers. With Favre, the peaks are higher and the valleys deeper, no 5 TD or 5 INT games from Rodgers. The stats are similar but Favre drove me crazy with his bad games (at least 2 or 3 per season) while Rodgers has never had a truly bad game. Even last week in New Orleans when he threw 3 picks, only one was his fault and still led 4 TD drives.
If we’re talking about a young Favre vs. young Rodgers, Favre’s durability is irreplaceable. The guarantee of having an above average QB every week for the past 15 seasons was a thing of beauty.

3 picks
against a beat up secondary that includes guys who I’ve never heard of. I’m at a loss as to which picks wouldn’t be Rodgers fault. There were also some ugly throws besides the picks.

The 2nd and 3rd picks. The 2nd pick was Nelson giving up on the short route and the 3rd pick was a desperation toss in the end zone. The first pick was inexcusable, though I did like seeing Rodgers at least deliver a blow to the guy who picked it, even if it was at the five. Favre never would have done that.

Second pick was a bad throw. It was low and to the side. The third was desperation and a bad throw as well. Favre wouldn’t have hit the guy because he couldn’t have caught him.

Rodgers
If you had asked me in March I would have been very sad to see Brett go and I still love the guy, but the way he behaved from mid-May on and the disrespect that he showed to the Packers and the Packer fans was shocking to me. The Packers certainly could have handled things better themselves, but Favre’s repeated lies caught me totally by surprise.
On the field I have been pleasantly surprised by Rodgers play and think the only way that Rodgers would have lost an open QB competition with Favre (which Favre originally said he wanted before backing off of it) would have been because of Favre’s name and reputation, not his play. Rodgers is the real deal, we just need to see if he is close to being as durable as Favre. He could never be as durable as Favre but as long as it is somewhat close I’ll be content. Long term this move is better for the Pack.

Nothing, now
Grant’s the guy. The only possible replacement on the roster is RB Brandon Jackson and he’s had his chances but didn’t seize them. Grant hurt his hamstring in the preseason and wasn’t truly healthy until the end of October. Plus the offensive line was dealing with injuries on and off at LT and C early in the season. Everyone has been healthy the past month and it’s shown on the field. The New Orleans game wasn’t a brilliant rushing effort, but it was only one game and it wasn’t a disaster either. I’m expecting him to finish the season strong.

Nick Collins
With Charles Woodson running a close second. They’ve both been great in coverage, created big turnovers, and played through some injuries. Woodson has been beaten a couple times for big plays by WR Roddy White and WR Marques Colston, so I’ll give Collins the slight nod.

It's a sad, sad story
DE Cullen Jenkins was slowed in 2007 by some injuries and didn’t have a great season. But he was kicking ass in 2008, as a run defender and as an inside or outside pass rusher. Unfortunately he tore his labrum (I think) in week 4 at Tampa and is out for the season. That’s a harsh injury, he might still not be 100% in 2009 either.

How is your team preparing after last weeks loss?
The Panthers said their practices were intensified or rather the pace of the practices picked up this week. With both of our teams coming off blowouts, how do you see your defense responding?
