Panthers Go Ugly Early, Beat Raiders 17-6
A win is a win right? It doesn't matter that your offense totally sucked for most of the afternoon. Just ask QB Jake Delhomme who completed nearly as many passes to the Raiders (4) as he did Panthers (7).
"I'm so glad we won, because you want to talk about a long plane ride home? We just didn't get this team going," Delhomme said. "It wasn't a good day offensively, but you know you're going to have those days, and the great thing about it is we won."
The Panthers are ecstatic to be leaving Oakland with a win and you can thank the defense for that.
- Julius Peppers had another dominant performance with 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. If he wasn't being double teamed he was causing the Raiders problems
- LB Jon Beason finished with 15 combined tackles and a pass defensed
- The Panthers picked off 2 passes, one by Richard Marshall and Chris Gamble, with Marshall's in the end zone foiling the Raiders best scoring opportunity
- PR Mark Jones easily had his best day as a Panther with a 55 yard punt return to go with a 59 yard kick return
- Dante Wesley got the Panthers going with a jarring hit on the Raiders KR Higgins on the opening kick off forcing a fumble and helping the Panthers to an early 7-0 lead
- DeAngelo Williams looked pretty average up until he ripped off the 69 yard TD
So is every one else feeling lucky to have won this one?

Jake
At one point he grabbed his left knee. Is that why he overthrew everyone?

Good thing...
they decided to come out flat against a bad team like the Raiders. A better team would have made the Panthers look like poo. Peppers got my vote.

Peppers
I had to vote pepper, he was a beast. In my fantasy league he scored 21 points. Now, Williams was the difference on offense but that D was stellar and without them we would have lost. So Peppers all the way on that one.

He'll get NFC Def playa of the week
7 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 FF. Monster game. Thye should have already signed him. The price is only going to go up.

Peppers
is the man! I’ve loved him ever since he played basketball at UNC.
However, I voted for DeAngelo. It’s good to see him rack up some good yards~
It wasn’t pretty, but it’s still a W…

Is anybody else worried?
If the Panthers want to be regarded as an elite team, games like this MUST be eliminated.
Thank heavens for our D, or that was a loss for us. I’m not in the Panthers market, so I didn’t see the game, but was Delhomme injured? If so, that would at least be an explanation for his performance. I just hope we demolish Detroit this week like we should.

Unfortunately no
Delhomme wasn’t injured. Just played horrible. Our D, today lead by Peppers are want won the game. Thus that is why I would give pep the gameball.

I'm not worried about being highly rated as an 'elite' team
In the end you just have to get hot at the end of the season and in the playoffs. Delhomme was not injured, he just had a bad game. This is the kind of game you have to win to make the NFC championship.
Go Panthers. One step closer, thats all it was.

Yep
I’d rather no be rated an elite team, to much pressure. We know the Panthers are a good team and so do the players, but having elite placed on them at this point doesn’t serve much.

Anyone else familiar with the term "going ugly early?"
Its from my fraternity days, I had a brother that would go for an ugly girl early in order to beat the rush at the end of night! No beer goggles needed for this guy.

Almost forgot
Another reason Peppers this vote is because of his heads up play in breaking off his pass rush to defend the screen pass near the end of the game. Can’t find that on the stat line.
