A Few Questions with... JScott, Buccaneers Blogger
Hello Panthers fans, JScott here from Buc 'Em welcoming you to Buccaneers-Panthers week. As part of the cross-blogging that will be going on all week between Buc 'Em and Cat Scratch Reader, we figured we would create these FanPosts on each others sites to answer any questions that were out there about each team.
Got a Bucs question? Let 'er rip! I look forward to a great game Sunday. This is my first of two glimpses at (man-crush) DE Julius Peppers! Good luck, and ask me any questions about the Bucs, the game, etc!
I'll check back in regularly to get those questions answered!

How's the QB situation?
Is Garcia back in and how do you feel about that?

It's truly up in the air
Gruden said he’ll announce the starter tomorrow. If Griese had a clean bill of health he’d be the hands down starter and rightfully so considering his record…
As it stands, i’d rather get Griese rest as it appears this weekends game will be pretty brutal. Give Garcia one last shot to salvage his career…
i’ll come back with a definitive answer once Gruden lets us in

word is
Jeff Garcia will be called upon this weekend. Brian Griese did not practice today and may or may not practice tomorrow. Be prepared to see Garcia.
With Garcia is I truly have no idea how the game will turn out. It’s essentially week 1 for him as he’s missed the last three ball games and only played in four offensive series last weekend in a torrential down pour…
Thus far Garcia has been off target, avoids the pocket at all costs, and lives by the 5-7 yard pass… We’ll see how different he plays this Sunday…. This is essentially his final shot at salvaging his career

Running or passing
Do the Bucs use the passing game to open the running game or vice versa?

Definitely the running game
Both rushers (Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn) average over 5 yards a carry and their success allows the passing game to open up. But Gruden’s going to pass the ball regardless of who’s back there (Griese, Garcia, the Boogeyman), so the team doesnt necessarily use the running game or the passing game to set up either aspect of the team…
Gruden is more susceptible to pass regardless of his run games success. He’s done a better job of balancing both sides this season, even rushing the ball more against the Packers than passing, but he tends to pass the ball more even when its a detriment to the team (i.e. Denver)…
Thanks for the question!!!

a mixed bag
Aqib Talib looked decent in Week 1, had a pick in Week 2, got injured in Week 3 and we havent seen much of him since. He’s been playing he just hasnt had any splash plays…
The fan base is ready to turn on 2nd round pick in Dexter Jackson ‘DJax’ … he tends to cower down to the oncoming hit when he’s returning kicks/punts and last week he finally made it into an offensive play call, he was used as a decoy. Thats pretty underwhelming results from the 2nd round draft pick. He had good returns against the Packers a week ago (41 and 39 yards), and had a punt return for touchdown of 83 yards in the Pre-Season, but for a 2nd round draft pick he’s hardly carried the load thus far… i would say the fan base is 75/25 on him being a bust…
3rd Rounder in Jeremy Zuttah has been the gem of the draft. He filled in for Davin Joseph in Week 2 – Week 4 and the line didnt skip a beat on the right side. Before long he could find himself as a starter on the left side of the line if Donald Penn and Arron Sears repeat their performances from last week.
Dre Moore our 4th round pick is on the PRACTICE SQUAD, that pretty much says it all. He came in out of shape and it showed on the field. Thats sad for a guy the Bucs traded up in the draft to get
5th round draft pick QB Josh Johnson has clipboard duties this season and one can only hope embraces the playbook and adds his mobility to the fray sooner than later
6th round pick Geno Hayes, has been a nice addition to the special teams and has seen very limited looks on defense, he appears to be able to make the transition to the NFL which is fantastic for a 2nd day pick
our 7th round pick was spent on RB Cory Boyd out of South Carolina and he was cut in the off-season. He picked a fight with 1st round pick Aqib Talib in the NFL’s instructional symposium for Rookies…. not a good idea…
Not the best of drafts for sure, but it could turn out to be better than initially expected should DJax grow into his own and Josh Johnson prove he can play with NFL competition

The first four picks are gems
That,s Stewart, Otah, Godfrey & Conner (now on IR). After that the jury is still out.

I know I'll never get a dime to scout talent
I had the Panthers drafting Moore in the 3rd round in the SBN Mock. Thank goodness they didn’t listen to me. I was surprised to see Jackson go that high but the guy has speed. If he’s afraid of getting hit though he’s in the wrong profession. So it looks like you got 2 certain keepers/starters and maybe two others that could contribute regularly. Not bad

The defense is obviously the Bucs strength.
How does the Panther offense need to attack the Bucs defense to win?

dont be afraid to throw the ball
Chicago would have won had they continued to throw the ball, Green Bay would have won had Aaron Rodgers not got injured. I know that sounds crazy after they held Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal under 50 yards each last week, but Cutler only threw the ball deep two or three times and he was off the mark.
Running the ball will not get it done. The Bucs have been excellent against the run thus far, stopping Ryan Grant, Michael Turner, and Matt Forte.
If you have a decent Tight End you can exploit the coverage over the middle. Don’t get me wrong the dink and dunk offense can get it done (see Denver) you just better hope Jeff Garcia is off all day, which is highly likely at this point..

Gaines Adams
has been a beast, he has 2 sacks, 2 INTERCEPTIONS (hah), and a touchdown. He’s looked completely different this season, as his instincts are finally paying dividends on the field. Although he doesnt have the sacks to prove it, he does get pressure on the Quarterback.
Gaines teammate on the line in Greg White has also looked good. He has 3.5 sacks thus far and he’s not a starter. He got a contract extension this off-season and there’s a performance incentive in his contract that pays him bonuses for each sack he records. How much? who knows, but he gets after it when he’s on the field.

Glad to have Warrick Dunn back?
Doesn’t look like he’s changed much.

he's been a joy to watch
He must performs spin moves while checking his mail, answering the door, and while working out at One Buc Place. The guy hasnt lost a step and provides the perfect change-up to Earnest Graham’s style of running. The fan base was clamoring for Michael Bennett all offseason but you dont hear much of that anymore, except for the yearning to see the guy return kicks…
