Cardinals vs. Panthers Game Day Open Thread

Arizona Cardinals at Carolina Panthers, Oct 26, 2008 1:00 PM EDT

It's game day fellow Panther fans and we have another exciting match-up. Up this week is the rejuvenated Arizona Cardinals who bring a 4-2 record and win over the Cowboys two weeks ago. If the Cardinals have one immediate advantage its that they are coming off a bye. The Panthers in turn are coming off a solid victory at home over dvision rival Saints.

Here's my game day musings:

  • My sense of dread tells me we are going miss not having C Ryan Kalil and RT Jeff Otah in the game this week. Though their back-ups Geoff Hangartner and Jeremy Bridges are playing well something tells me the Panthers are going to see the fierciest pass rush they've seen season-to-date. I still have Darnell Dockett flashbacks from last seasons game. There's also that Berry guy too.
  • I think the Panthers will have some success running the ball. It's going to be the key to taming the pass rush when the game is on the line in the 4th quarter.
  • WR Steve smith is going terrorize CB Rod Hood. He cooked him for a TD last season and I bet he gets him again.
  • After watching the Cardinals block that punt to beat the Cowboys I've had been worried. The Panthers haven't exactly been stellar with their punt protection this season. Let's hope we don;t give the Cardinals a repeat of that.
  • I wonder how effective WR Anquan Boldin will be coming off that vicious hit. Will he be gun shy on going over the middle or going up high? I would be. One shot to the chops in this game and he is on the sidelines I would imagine.
  • The Panthers don't have to worry about either of the Cardinal RB's breaking one long but they do need to worry about getting in to many 3rd and shorts. This Hightower kid is a load.

So lets hear from you Panther fans. Don't be a lurker, we want to hear from!

That D series looked better

HOpe we can keep that up. Now we need to score

by LittleKing on Oct 26, 2008 1:32 PM EDT reply actions

Real pretty defensive series there

Kurt Warner’s had his face in the dirt plenty already

by MrEd12345 on Oct 26, 2008 1:32 PM EDT reply actions

come on moose

there’s that dropped pass.

by LittleKing on Oct 26, 2008 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

Warner

Takes a beating but completes the pass. Carolina needs some momentum on offense!

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:17 PM EDT reply actions

Need

Few points. Think Fox will play it safe or go for it??

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:26 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe

he was going for field goal range?? It would have been nice to see one thrown deep!

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:35 PM EDT reply actions

yeah he was,

but that one had 5 secs. two plays not likely

by LittleKing on Oct 26, 2008 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

What will it take?

so guys, what do you think need to happen to win this one?

by LittleKing on Oct 26, 2008 2:41 PM EDT reply actions

Specifically

Keep the same game plan with no drops and no turnovers.

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

Defense

Is doing it’s part. Bend don’t break, other than the short field they had to work with for the TD!

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

I think we picked up some momentum towards the end of the first half

Keep up the defensive intensity, the running game was going well so maintain that and keep Warner off the field.

by MrEd12345 on Oct 26, 2008 2:44 PM EDT reply actions

at least

Tampa and Atlanta are down!

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:46 PM EDT reply actions

yes,

but I’d prefer to win the division than not lose it.

by LittleKing on Oct 26, 2008 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions

My answer

I agree our defense is bending but not breaking. 10-3 is a testimony to that. I would say more pressure on Warner, and while that would be nice, I wouldn’t want to send any extra defenders. so a pick or two would be nice.

Offensive needs ot get smith a few more deep and hopefully that will get the running game going so we can keep the clock on our side.

by LittleKing on Oct 26, 2008 2:47 PM EDT reply actions

need a pick

get it going the other way.

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:50 PM EDT reply actions

Cards

are catching everything!

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:51 PM EDT reply actions

Can't lose at home.

They don’t seem to be into the game today. Looking very mediocore!

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

Stands

looking very empty today!

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

game changer

I’ve said it before, but these guys have to have a game changer to get back in. They don’t play well if they dont’ have one. And unfortunately I don’t see it happening. knock on wood.

who says williams doesn't have power

how many people did he move on that last play

by LittleKing on Oct 26, 2008 2:58 PM EDT reply actions

Tampa's losing...

We win this one and they lose we’re back on top!

by MrEd12345 on Oct 26, 2008 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

Missed FG

Couls be a factor. Need more pressure on warner!

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 3:25 PM EDT reply actions

Im bias

but say not enough to overturn, right?

by LittleKing on Oct 26, 2008 3:27 PM EDT reply actions

Wow

what a game this is turning out to be!

by MrEd12345 on Oct 26, 2008 3:28 PM EDT reply actions

This is...

John Fox’s kind of game. Keeping it close. Prob run the ball to kill the clock!

by Davejinxer on Oct 26, 2008 3:57 PM EDT reply actions

How about the Tampa game?

19 seconds left, 4th and 3 on the Dallas 18, Tampa ball, down by 4
