Failure Starts at the Top

I've been a big supporter of John Fox since he was named head coach. I believe since then he's been a good fit for our team. You can compare his draft's with previous coaches and he's had more positives. When everyone else was saying he was on the hot seat I stood up for him telling everyone he would be back this year. After this last game I'm wavering on that thought.

As I posted after the Chicago game, I still wonder what might have happened if Delhomme wouldn't have been hit when he slid. The team openly admits that was a game changer for them. The next week against Minnesota the team couldn't do anything to get momentum after the fumble and touchdown return right before halftime. It seems Carolina has to have a reason to play other than winning the game. The same thing happened Sunday against the Bucs, they never found their reason to play.

You would figure winning should be enough but that not always the case. We are either excited or dull, have energy or appear slow and this has always been a problem since Fox came on board. You never know which team is going to show up. When I was thinking about this today I couldn't help but wonder why and the only reason I could come up with is it starts at the top. The Coaches have the responsibility of making sure the team focuses on the upcoming game and playing hard each time they take the field and currently I don't see that coming out of Fox and maybe it's time we had a coach that does.

Okay back to reality. I feel much better after venting. I'm not calling for Coach Fox's head now or at the end of the season at least from what I've seen so far. Fox is a coach built for the playoff and once there special things can happen. It's just that it's frustrating to watch and not knowing which team will show up. This game was not fun to watch and definately not what I've come to expect so far this season.

I take solace in knowing that the Giants tonight laid and egg against the Brown on MNF, which mean that good teams can have bad days. But iwhen due a few bad game turn into a trend and a trend turn into reality. The lost this week makes the Saints game that much bigger. Let's put this game behind us and look for the real Panthers to show up against again.

Fox ticked me on two things:

1 – Failure to call a timeout in the last 1.5 minutes of the first half. If you recall the Panthers were driving into Bucs territory but the clock was running and Jake was in a hurry. He then threw that duck that Moose bobbled into Phillips hands. The Panthers went into the halftime leaving 2 TO’s on the board. Why didn;t he take a TO after the previous play? Clock was burning and I think it caused Jake to hurry his decision and throw.

2 – The only time the Panthers could move the ball was throwing to Smitty and Moose, yet outside of two drives it seemed they forgot they were there. The play calling lacked imagination yet again and rarely seemed to catch the Bucs off-guard.

You can back away from the ledge LK, it’s just one game and the season could still be saved.

I for one...

would like to see Fox put a boot up someone’s ass every now and then!!! I never see him get mad at a player if they screw up. It’s always the gum chewing, clapping hands, pat you on the back and ok get it right next time. Maybe he’s trying to watch his blood pressure. I would like to see more emotion from the coaching staff. I have supported Fox as well…but I have my doubts if we can’t win at home this Sunday against the Saints.

Your concerned are well warranted

How quickly things can change. Suddenly we’re worried whether we can hang with the Saints offense when a week ago I wasn’t too concerned.

I do feel better

after a few day of reflection. Also watching the Giants stink it up gave me solace. We have a good team, it’s just that they have to play like a good team.
