Panthers vs. Bucs Game Day Open Thread

Welcome to CSR's open thread. If you can't watch the game feel free to ask questions and others will be happy to let you know what they are seeing.
The anticipation for every game seems to be building as the 4-1 Panthers continue on their quest to the 2008 playoffs. Maybe I'm being premature since coach Fox says all the Panthers are guaranteed is 4-12. Pretty typical coach-speak, at least from Fox. Hey, it's hard for fans like me to not get excited about the teams prospects, not just because of the 4-1 record but because this team appears very balanced in all areas. We know if the Panthers continue to play like they have the first 5 weeks then a winning record is no stretch.
This week its the Bucs, a huge divisional rival who has been talking smack leading up to the game. Here's some more Panther predictions from yours truly:
- Panthers: 140 yards rushing and 1 TD (It's hard to say which RB will excel this week)
- 240 yards passsing with a Score by Smitty and one of the TE's
- Another sack for DE Julius Peppers; 2 total for the Panthers
- 1 INT by Jeff Garcia who will whine at least twice on the field because of getting hit or intentional grounding call
- A Bucs crowd that grows more silent as the game progresses
- Bucs RB Earnest Graham will be held to 50 yards; actually Warrick Dunn may have more success than Graham
Lets here your predictions fans (I'm already knocking on wood to prevent the jinx).

I have a feeling about this one. Breakout game for the Panthers, not as close as anyone expects, and puts Carolina on the map bigtime.
Jake's getting good protection
Lots of time in the pocket. He’s not forcing passes either, dumping it off if he has to, not doing anything too risky.
Special Teams coach
has to go. This has happened way way way too many times.

The coaching in the game, the play calling etc. has been great
But insofar as getting these guys to buckle down and focus…. miserable.

Jake overthrew Smith a little on that one
If he didnt, that would have been a TD. I guess that’s one of those good problems. No more questions about that elbow, for sure.

Stewart tripped over Jake’s feet taking the handoff, probably would have been a TD if he hadn’t. Weird weird game.

although the announcers were wrong, he WASN"T down when his knee hit the ground cause he hadn’t been touched, but then he WAS touched and at the time when he was touched he had control of the ball…

Well, what a horrible half.
On the other hand, that last drive showed a lot of promise. The INT was a freak play, Jake made a great throw anyway. Moose comes down with that for the TD four times out of five. A few adjustments at the half, like in the Chicago game, and we can be right back in this thing.

Did anybody see that batted pass, recovered, fumbled, taken back for a TD that the Redskins had pulled on them by the Rams? At least we’re not on the ass end of a play like that.
This was suppose to...
be the game that showed our true identity. Is this our panthers team, or are they just having a rough half?? Tampa got beat by Denver last week. Denver has a horrible defense. Griese was qb however. Our secondary has looked pretty weak today.

Problem
They now know we are trying to come from behind and pass every play. Hard to establish the run when down by 20. They will be well aware of this and all over the ball. Have to make some completions deep! No interceptions!

Tough day
Guess I shouldn’t take it personally, but a loss makes us tied with the Bucs for the division and the Saints are coming next weekend and love the deep ball. We are looking pathetic!

I thought these Panthers were behind us.
No effort, costly mistakes, just generally horrible. Apparently I was wrong. This is such a hard team to be a fan of.
Unfortunately
our powder puff schedule the next few weeks might give these guys more slack than they deserve.

MATT RYAN has put up 272 yards and a TD at Chicago and Jake’s got 154 and 3 INTs.

And Matt Ryan has looked absolutely solid today. Very few bad passes.
