Bucs vs. Panthers: Game Day Open Thread
Here’s an open thread from anyone who wants to comment during the game. Also, if you are unable to watch the game I’ll be giving commentary on the key plays as best I can. I’m on kid duty today so in between referring brawls between my boys and keeping them from destroying the house I’ll report on brawls on the field and watching the Panthers destroy the Bucs!
My game day musings:
• Is this the week Dwayne Jarrett comes off the inactive list? I wouldn’t be surprised that when that happens the Panthers trade or cut Keary Colbert outright right then.
• How much will Stanley McClover play today? I’ve talked him up so much I hope he at least makes one play to talk about.
• Will David Carr play like we know he is capable of playing? I actually find myself not too worried about this.
•Will the Panthers finally generate a pass rush? We need to be a little more creative in our blitzes.
• Will DeAngelo Williams finally break a big play? He’s been close a couple times. He’s due.
• Will Steve Smith bounce back? Of course he will. How did that thought ever even enter my mind?
• Finally, will the Panthers home field actually provide an advantage? I know the Cat Man has been trying to come up with some type of cheer to fire up the home crowd. Let’s keep an eye out for that.
Go Panthers!!!
[Update: Weather Report - Charlotte, NC - 82 degress, sunny, pleseantly warm - End Update]
I must concur that it's a beautiful day as well here in Charleston! Maybe a couple degrees warmer, slightly windy.

David Carr
"Really, all he said when he came in was, `Let's go,' " fullback Brad Hoover said. "And that's exactly what we did. We didn't miss a beat. He came in and played with great poise and confidence, and I think that's what you get with David. He's confident. He comes in and he's efficient running the offense. You know, we all make mistakes, but I think he did a very good job at Atlanta and he's been very capable throughout the whole training camp and preseason of doing what we need to do.
"We're not going to change anything for him. The thing is, if any guy goes down, you have another guy to step in. They know their job, they're trying to execute the best they can, and that's the way this whole offense works."
I'm going to change my prediction for offensive MVP to David Carr. It seems obvious now. In order for Steve Smith or Drew Carter have a big game Carr is going to get more credit for that, and he should. If the Panthers win this game it will be because David Carr came off the bench and delivered.
Falcons beat the Texans, fairly easily
The Falcons and Harrington showed that their good showing against Carolina last week was no fluke. Everyone here, including me, was disheartened by the Falcons' showing against Carolina, blaming our defense for a poor game. Maybe that needs revision.

Garcia scores TD
I can't believe we didn't nail him. Looks like someone good have laid a hit on him.
You called it AJ!
Carr went deep on the first play! Incomplete though, out of bounds. 3 and out. suck.
What happened?
What happened on the two passes? Did Carr look bad or what?

Cadillac is hurt
His right leg got caught up under him. It didn't look good but I don't want to speculate further.
Do we have 11 men on the field?
TB looks unstoppable. Peppers is the only guy on defense who hasn't made a tackle yet.
Does the offense look out of sync, or is Carr just off on his passing? Is he being pressured?

Panthers Just Getting Killed at the line
On both sides of the ball for the most part. The Bucs O-line is driving us back.
Deep hole
We're in a deep hole already, without a glimmer of light!

Carter almost had it
he made a beautiful catch but couldn't hold on once he hit the ground. That's the catch we need him to make.
Panther O not clicking
Next possession they just need to keep in the ahnds of the RB's, on runs and passes.
Beautiful play fake by Garcia
He fooled everyone. Hilliard bobbled it, if only someone was there to hit him. T. Davis was covering him
The blitz worked!
Yes! Finally a stop. 4th down. Still got the FG. 17 pts looked insurmountable given the way they are playing. Come on Panthers!!
Halftime - This game sucks
I'm resisting criticizing Carr, I played him in fantasy! Why oh why? I jinxed us.
Very disappointing
I was hoping for Carr to have a good game. Don't tell me about the defense. The score says it all.
But what's happening on offense? No running game. Just no blocking for run or pass? Why is Carr so ineffective? Being pressured? Passes being dropped? Throwing poorly?
Is there any hope in the second half? Carolina gets the kickoff. If they could get a TD, al least they're back in the game, if the defense could stop TB for once.

Another lousy game for Peppers
8 defensive players have 2 or more tackles. Peppers has one. Defense has no sacks, no interceptions. But fortunately, neither does TB.

Offense does nothing again
They are not throwing the ball downfield or to the middle of the field either
TD for DeAngelo
It was like suddenly with 2 minutes left they figured out how to attack this defense. Passes up the middle, Carr running for yardage and screens to D-Will. Damn, Carr didn't play good but I thought it was a poorly called game for the offense too.
