Panthers vs. Falcons: Game Plan Predictions
Panthers Offense:
The Panthers won’t deviate this week from their primary objective: running the ball. They need to keep those safeties up in order to try and create one-on-one opportunities for Smith. The Falcons still have a good defensive front and all-world LB Keith Brookings (GT boy!). Their #1 pick was DE Jamaal Anderson (no relation to the former Falcons RB) so with Coleman upfront running will be tough. The Panthers need to get a few more touches for D-Will in the flat or spread formations. I think he’s ready for a breakout game. Also, with Jeremy Bridges returning from a two game suspension expect some changes in the starting five upfront. Finally, either Colbert or Carter has got to step up because DeAngelo Hall has the capability to keep Smith in check if the Panthers aren’t creative in their play calling.
Panthers Defense:
The Falcons have struggled on offense but don’t expect any sympathy from the Panthers. They need to shot of self-confidence and Joey Harrington and his struggling offensive line is just the cure. Joe Horn hasn’t provided the boost to the WR corps as expected (but not by me) so don’t expect the Falcons corners to be concerned. They will focus on stopping the run and forcing Harrington to sit in the pocket and beat them by throwing it. Crumpler does scare me and I don’t expect to shut him down, he could have a big day. Chris Harris will be a key to stopping him. I expect the defense to put up four sacks and an INT and wear the Falcons down in the fourth quarter before finally putting the Falcons away.
Special Teams:
The goal of the Panthers special teams this week should be to not lose the game with a bone-headed blunder. Keeping all Falcon kick returns under 20 yards would be nice too. And no turnovers!
Game score: Panthers 20 Falcons 13
I usually put a poll in here and let you guess who the Panthers game MVP will be but I’m sure everybody will put Steve Smith. That’s no fun anymore. Let’s try something else.

the game
I expected Joe Horn to teach the other receivers to catch, and it seems like he has, but that's it.
I expect the Panthers D to shut down the Falcons offense because that loss to the Texans was embarrassing. WHat we saw against Houston was a lack of mental toughness and focus, and they know that. If they aren't angry with themselves, they shouldn't be playing Sunday.
I expect us to come out and get a 34-10 win.
