Is It Time for an NFL Rookie Salary Scale?
Before I get into the topic at hand I want to mention I'm attending my first training camp session later today so I'll be reporting on that later tonight or in the morning. I'm stoked to say the least! I hope to get to at least one session a week throughout camp and pre-season.
Back to the topic at hand.
Beason's holdout is really frustrating me at this point and so I'm wondering why the NFL doesn't implement a rookie salary scale similar to the NBA. Anyone have any ideas why? Imagine how much money Greg Oden's agent would be asking for if he could negotiate? Honestly I can't think of a reason not to go to some type of scale that includes a set percentage that is guaranteed. All the owners could agree on the types of clauses, etc... including the options that appear to be the roadblock to Beason signing. If it sucks for the fans then you know it sucks for the GM's and the players. The only people who would object would be the agents but we know why they would object. So again, let me know if there's any reason the NFL shouldn't implement a rookie salary scale and chime in on my poll:
