Saturday Night's First Glimpse
For those of you who didn't watch any of the Panthers' first pre-season game last night, the team looked very solid in its first outing. Jeff Davidson's new run scheme looked awesome- Deshaun racked up 60 something yards on just 5 carries. Given more playing time, due to Deangelo William's sore ankle, Nick Goings also found success with the zone blocking. Delhomme only played two series, but threw two first downs on third downs to lead the first team to an opening drive touchdown. Carr was also effective, going 6 for 8, with a nice touchdown to cap off an efficient second quarter two minute drill. Taye Biddle was the beneficiary of Carr's TD pass as well as a 85 yard touchdown bomb from Brett Basanez to begin the second half. Maybe the most exciting was first round pick Jon Beason's instict to get to the football- he rung up 8 tackles and a game ending forced fumble in a lot of playing time. Sure the second and third string's run defense was suspect, but the starters and key reserves all had solid performances--solid enough to squeeze out the 16th win in the last 18 Panther preseason games. Hell, even Eric Shelton showed some strong running on his seven carries. I look forward to see Jarret out on the field next week.
