Panthers Training Camp Opens Today

Whoo Hooo! It has been a long time coming but it is finally here. The Carolina Panthers Training camp opens today at 9:10am. The first practice isn't until Saturday morning but there is plenty going on today in SparkleCity (Spartanburg). Consider this an OPEN THREAD for anyone to discuss their thoughts. I unfortunately cannot make it. It's a long story but I have a prior commitment with the one thing of higher priority, the family. I will be trying to make a practice or two next week and then next weekend as well.

If any lurkers out there happen to stop by camp I would love to hear what your impressions were. On a down note it appears the number one attraction in camp, the Drew Carter - Dwayne Jarrett match-up will have to wait as Jarrett still isn't signed. Bummer.

================

Even much worse news, apparently Jeremy Bridges never read about the Pacman Jones saga. Bridges has been arrested for pointing a gun at someone outside a strip club. I'm going to hold off judgement until I get the details but geezz...he was supposedly working hard to earn the right guard spot. Let's hope he doesn't get suspended.

First of all, I have to disagree about Bridges.  If he's guilty, he should get suspended and let that be a lesson to the other guys on the team to focus on football.  The strip clubs are hotter in the offseason if he really wants to go that bad.

Either way, the real battle is going to be the CB battle.  Williams is going to win the RB battle with zone blocking and his shiftiness, Smith is the man, Peppers is ready for a Defensive MVP year, and Delhomme knows he has a former #1 overall pick behind him waiting for his shot to play.  However, Gamble gets burned a lot and Lucas doesn't like to hit (well he didn't last year when he was hurt.)  Richard Marshall will become a lock-down corner and he and Jon Beason are the future of this defense, along with Peppers.  These guys are going to block kicks, return interceptions for TDs, and recover fumbles by the other team in the redzone.

Thelonger Jarrett, Beason and Kalil hold out, the longer their odds of starting on opening day.  The Panthers trip to the Superbowl has officially begun!  And, yes, I do have my Steve Smith jersey with me in Iraq!
