Titans Stomp the Panthers 20-7
Albert Haynesworth (3 sacks) and the Tennessee Titans stomped the Panthers... figuratively speaking. As I expected the Panthers offense was anemic as David Carr was sacked seven times. I no longer wonder why Carr was sacked so many times while in Houston. The guy just does not know how to get rid of the ball. He always seems to decide to run it a second too late. You can’t blame all of it on the offensive line. Carr just doesn’t make the reads quick enough nor does he throw the deep ball with any accuracy. At this point if Vinny Testaverde can’t play then I’d rather see Matt Moore start at QB. Let the kid run with the first team and lets see what happens.
LenDale White rushed for 100 yards for the third straight game. Outside of that, the Panther defense played well enough to win by forcing three turnovers, two interceptions and a fumble recovery (special teams had one too). Outside of the fumble recovery the Panthers special teams again sucked by giving up too many long run backs. Damione Lewis had two sacks and was the only d-lineman who could make a play. Julius Peppers only contributions was two personal foul penalties.
The offensive play calling was again a collection of unimaginative short passes and runs that fooled no one except those Panthers fans stupid enough to watch this fiasco to the end. Count me among those who now think it may be time for a coaching change. I don’t think changing OC’s again is the answer to correcting the offense. Though they played pretty well today overall the defense has underperformed this season.
John Fox continues to accept piss poor play from special teams that puts added pressure on the defense by giving up short fields. John Kasay missed another field goal that was makable.
With the Bucs win over Jacksonville they now claim the division lead as the Panthers fall into a second place tie with the Saints who won their fourth straight today. As much as I am trying to remain positive I think I was right when I said the Panthers season peaked three weeks ago against the Cardinals.
At 4-4 the Panthers have plenty of time to get back in the race for the division but their dismal play gives no hope. Even worse, the Panthers coaching just doesn’t seem capable of turning it around. Does anyone have Bill Cowhers’ number?

the future
We need to clean house. John Fox has to go. We could bring in Bill Cowher, Jim Mora Jr, Jim Haslett...anybody. Davidson is responsible for the Browns offensive success last season (they were 5-11), and you see how impressive our offense is. I think that more plays are called for Smith than we see as Carr opts for the safe play instead of the game-changing play. What he doesn't realize is that 5 yards on 3rd and 8 does change the game. I think Matt Moore would take more chances and throw the ball to Steve Smith. Throw it downfield a little, and maybe the D doesn't stack 8 in the box to stop our feeble running game. In addition to firing Fox and staff, we need to cut David Carr, Keary Colbert and Mike Rucker, and trade Peppers, Jenkins and Morgan. I'm to the point of calling D-Will a 1st round bust. I'm just tired of watching these guys.
Next year Cowher can rebuild with whoever is left after the much-needed house cleaning.

How about Frank Beamer?

Frank Beamer?
I don't know much about Beamer, so I don't have an opinion on that one. I think Jenkins is good, but he'll never be any better than he is right now. Peppers just isn't motivated enough to be worth the money. I say trade him because he's going to want Dwight Freeney money, and he is more talented than Freeney, but he doesn't play as hard. If our new coach can motivate Peppers to make a change like Randy Moss of 2006 to Moss of 2007, then we can keep Pep. But he's going to demand a lot of money for little production. I think John Fox is a good coach, but the rest of the NFL has caught up with what he's trying to do with the talent we have. We need a whole new look with a new group of young, motivated players who are thinking about Championships.

I agree but...
I can't help but think how different things would be with Jake. Yes, Jake did lose to Houston but I certainly think we would have performed much better in the Tampa Bay and Tennessee games. I think our biggest problem is we are being out-coached. I think our guys are playing hard and we have the talent to better than a .500 ball club. If Carr keeps playing were looking at 6-10, Vinny 8-8 or 7-9.
