Delhomme Out for the Season

This blows hard!

"They are pretty sure it will be (Tommy John)," said Rick Smith. "By shutting him down today, that ensures that he can take his time in rehabilitation and will have no problem in coming back for training camp next year."

It's the smart thing to do though. If there's no guarantee he won't reinjure it then shut him down.

I feel bad for Jake. I know he was ready to make it happen. We'll get past it though.

Best wishes for Jake

I really regret this injury to Jake, especially when he appeared to be having a great season.  Though a Carr supporter, I do not like seeing him take charge under such circumstances.  Jake has been a great competitor and leader for the team.  The fans should appreciate all he has meant to the team.  It was no small feat getting them to the Super Bowl and nearly winning it all.  He can now play a very important role in rallying the team around Carr and inspiring them to make the playoffs.

Now that Carr is in full command, it is his opportunity to prove if he is a top level QB or not.  All the slams, slurs, and insults he has absorbed over the years at Houston would soon be forgotten if he can lead the team to unexpected victories by making the playoffs at least.  This is my hope, but in honesty I must say that his two appearances so far don't show a lot of promise.  His performance has come perilously close to confirming all the criticisms.  I thought the new chance he was given would inspire and fire him up to prove his critics wrong.  That does not seem the case at this point.

He actually played very inspired

Against the Bucs he dove 5 yds for a first down even though he was going to get hit. He took that sack against the Saints and came back. I think Carr is doing all he can

A ricochet scoop by CSR

I had sent the following post to Jaxon two weeks ago, which Jaxon highlighted in a diary.  This had been posted in an Observor forum, but received no notice or comment there.  Unfortunately, it turns out that "handyman b" knew exactly what he was talking about.

Just some quick Delhomme info for you. I'm a hand therapist and it appeared to me from the nature of his movement, area analyzed on the sideline and pain level, that Delhomme's injury was an: ulnar collateral ligament injury. This is common with QB's and pitchers. It involves the most important supportive structure to the inside of the elbow, for Delhomme's capacity to throw the ball, especially with any snap or velocity.. if it's even slightly torn he'll likely get Tommy John's surgery and be out for the season.. if he plays with it he'll probably end up performing VERY poorly with shortened, floating passes and be benched anyway.

You're right

I had forgotten about that. I'll have to point that out.

the QB situation

I agree with Jaxon that Carr has played very inspired.  Two things that I think were never questioned were Carr's toughness and effort.  He's always going to give his all.  The question is whether or not his all equates to greatness.  Many players give their all, but their all just isn't that good.  We'll see about Carr.  I have confidence that he can lead us to the playoffs if everyone else does their jobs (in other words, can we get some sacks, rushing TDs and more turnovers from the D?).

I appreciate AJ's objective insights, though.  What I wonder, though, is who is going to be our third QB, or #2 if Moore stays at #3?  Also, Jake's career-best QB rating was helped out a lot by incredible plays by Steve Smith.  Colbert played well against the Saints.  If all those things continue, and Carr plays very well (division winning quality), who starts next year?  I think we need to draft a safety in the 1st rd (end the denial) and a QB on the 1st day next year.
